Alfa Romeo Australia has announced local pricing and specifications for the 2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale plug-in hybrid, which arrives locally in October. Priced from $77,500 plus on-road costs, the plug-in hybrid variant of the Tonale is only available in top-spec Veloce form and combines a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 90kW electric motor for 208kW of total power. It’s also capable of a claimed all-electric range of 60km with CO2 emissions rated at just 34g/km.

Under the bonnet of the 2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale plug-in hybrid is a 208kW plug-in hybrid drivetrain, which uses a 132kW 1.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with a six-speed automatic transmission on the front wheels, and a 90kW/250Nm electric motor for the rear wheels. The claimed 0-100km/h sprint time is just 6.2 seconds.

The electric motor draws power from a 15.5kWh lithium ion battery for up to 60km of claimed all-electric range. It can be charged at up to 7.4kW for a full recharge in as little as 2.5 hours.

Standard equipment on the 2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale plug-in hybrid includes 19-inch alloy wheels, automatic all-LED lighting with Matrix adaptive high beam and scrolling indicators, auto wipers, keyless entry and start, rear tinted glass, auto-folding mirrors with heating, black leather and suede trim, a sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, eight-way electric front seat adjustment with driver’s memory, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation and digital radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Alfa Connected Services, a wireless phone charger, a 14-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, a mode two charging cable and a spare wheel.

Safety equipment includes six airbags, auto emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane keep assist with lane trace assist, traffic jam assist, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, driver attention monitoring, traffic sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, front, side and rear parking sensors and a 360-degree camera.

The only options for the Tonale plug-in hybrid are $1,500 20-inch alloy wheels, $1,600 premium paint (‘Alfa Red’, ‘Alfa Black’, ‘Misano Blue’ and ‘Vesuvio Grey’) or $2,500 special ‘Misano Blue’ paint.
