Tesla Australia has officially unveiled a series of updates for its popular Model 3 sedan and Model Y mid-size SUV for the 2027 model year (MY27). The refreshed lineup introduces enhanced performance, added features, new interior and exterior finishes, and the arrival of bidirectional charging across both vehicle families.
Orders for the MY27 Tesla Model 3 and Model Y ranges are open now, with local customer deliveries scheduled to commence later this month.

Power Share Bidirectional Charging Arrives
Headlining the MY27 updates for both the Model 3 and Model Y is the introduction of Power Share, Tesla’s official bidirectional charging capability. This technology enables the vehicle’s high-voltage battery pack to store, share, and export power to:
- Run external appliances (Vehicle-to-Load / V2L)
- Provide home backup power during blackouts
- Feed electricity back into the energy grid
Utilising Power Share requires the $145 Tesla Outlet Adapter, which can be purchased directly from the online Tesla Shop. Tesla has confirmed that Power Share hardware is exclusive to MY27 models and cannot be retrofitted to pre-MY27 vehicles

Tesla Model Y: Shanghai Production Brings Price Drop & Faster Acceleration
The flagship Model Y Performance All-Wheel Drive sees a significant price drop from $89,400 down to $84,900 (plus on-road costs).
This reduction comes as Tesla shifts Australian-bound Model Y Performance production from its Gigafactory in Berlin, Germany, to its Shanghai factory in China, bringing it in line with the rest of the Australian Model Y range. A byproduct of this sourcing switch is that exterior paint choices on the Performance variant are now extra-cost options.
Across the broader MY27 Model Y lineup, Tesla has introduced:
- New Styling Options: A fresh Glacier Blue exterior paint option and a Zen Grey interior upholstery selection.
- Quicker Acceleration:
- Model Y Premium Long-Range AWD: 0–100km/h sprint drops by 0.5s to 4.3 seconds.
- Model Y L Premium AWD: 0–100km/h sprint drops by 0.3s to 4.5 seconds.

Tesla Model 3: Extended Range, Bigger Screen & New Entry Variant
The MY27 Tesla Model 3 sedan gains several technology, aesthetic, and efficiency upgrades across its range:
- New Entry Variant: A new base Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) trim lowers the entry point to the Model 3 range to $45,900 (plus ORCs).
- Upgraded Infotainment: A larger 16-inch touchscreen replaces the outgoing 15.4-inch display.
- Refined Cabin & Exterior: Gains a dark headliner, the new Zen Grey interior theme, and optional 19-inch ‘Dark Nova’ alloy wheels on Premium variants.
- More Range for Performance: The range-topping Model 3 Performance AWD sees its WLTP driving range expand from 571km to 600km on a single charge.
