The 2026 Geely EX2 hatch is locked and loaded for Australia, claiming the title of the nation’s most affordable five-seat electric vehicle when local deliveries kick off before the end of July.

Priced from $26,490 plus on-road costs, the entry-level EX2 Complete doesn’t quite dethrone the pint-sized, four-seat BYD Atto 1 ($23,990 to $27,990 plus on-roads) as the absolute cheapest EV on the market. However, the Geely fires back by offering a larger body, a practical five-seat cabin layout, and a rear-wheel-drive platform promising superior driving dynamics.

It also comfortably undercuts its closest five-seat rival, the GAC Aion UT ($31,990 plus on-roads), while snatching the crown from the Leapmotor B05 ($35,888) as the cheapest rear-wheel-drive EV in the country.

Aggressive Launch Offers

To kickstart its Australian assault, Geely is offering enticing introductory perks. Buyers who place an order and take delivery between 12 July and 31 August 2026 will receive:

  • A free 7kW home charging unit
  • A no-cost premium paint upgrade
  • An ultra-low 0.68% comparison finance rate on a 36-month term (for eligible customers)

Drivetrains, Range, and Performance

The Geely EX2 arrives with two distinct battery and powertrain options, both featuring independent rear suspension and a ride-and-handling tune developed in collaboration with Geely Technology Europe (formerly the Lotus Tech Innovation Centre).

  • EX2 Complete ($26,490 + ORC): Powered by a 60kW/150Nm rear electric motor paired with a 35.3kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery. It delivers a claimed 252km of driving range (WLTP). DC fast charging tops out at 60kW, while AC home charging is capped at 6kW.
  • EX2 Inspire ($30,990 + ORC): Steps up to a punchier 85kW/150Nm rear motor and a larger 47.1kWh LFP battery, boosting WLTP range to 345km. DC fast charging increases to 80kW (AC remains at 6kW).

At 345km of range, the flagship EX2 Inspire matches the BYD Dolphin Essential and edges out the BYD Atto 1 Premium (310km), though it falls short of the larger MG 4 Urban Essence 54, which offers 405km of WLTP range for $34,990 drive-away.

Standard Equipment & Safety

Despite its budget-friendly price tag, the base EX2 comes well-equipped, though the Inspire adds the expected premium creature comforts.

Dimensions and Practicality

In terms of physical footprint, the EX2 bridges the gap between light hatchbacks and small crossovers. Measuring 4135mm long, 1805mm wide, and 1570mm tall on a 2650mm wheelbase, it is similar in size to a petrol-powered Toyota Yaris, sitting squarely between the BYD Atto 1 and the BYD Dolphin.

Practicality is a strong suit, serving up 375 litres of boot space, supplemented by a handy 70-litre frunk under the bonnet for charging cables and smaller items.

The 2026 Geely EX2 is available to order now, with the first fleet of customer cars hitting Australian showrooms in late July. Stay tuned to DiscoverAuto for our first drive, coming soon.
