Land Rover has pulled the wraps its all-new fifth-generation 2022 Range Rover, confirming price and spec levels for Australia, along with the introduction of a new seven-seat variant.

Order books are now wide open, with deliveries are expected around mid-2022 for the large SUV which will go into battle with the likes of other large luxury SUVs such as the Bentley Bentayga, Audi Q8 and BMW X7. Buyers after a plug-in hybrid, or an exclusive range-topping SV model will have to wait until January 2022 to place their orders, for deliveries closer to the end of 2022.

2022 Range Rover Models and Engines

The 2022 Range Rover line-up is extensive, and starts with the entry-level diesel powered D300 SE, priced at $220,200 before on-road costs. It might be the base model, but it now costs almost $20,000 more than the entry level price of the current base Range Rover.

The base SE trim is also available with a more powerful P400 petrol-powered engine for $225,500, $19,331 more than the outgoing P400 Vogue which came in at $206,169.

The HSE trim level comes with either the diesel D350 engine or the petrol P530 engine and is priced at $241,400 and $259,500 respectively.

The Autobiography also comes with either the D350 or P530 engine with respective prices at $279,600 and $297,600. The Autobiography can be optioned in an exclusive long wheelbase version which adds $5500 to the price.

The range-topping First Edition can be optioned with the same engines as the Autobiography, with prices starting at $298,800 for the D350 and a whopping $312,500 for the petrol P530.

Later in 2022, expect Land Rover to offer the exclusive Range Rover SV, which Land Rover describes as “an exquisite interpretation of Range Rover luxury and personalisation”.

In a first for a Range Rover, the 2022 model can now be had with seven-seats. Available only on the Autobiography. a seven-seat Ranger Rover will set you back $286,600 (D350) and $304,700 (P530).

The D300 and D350 diesels come with a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, producing 221kW/650Nm and 258kW/700Nm respectively.

The petrol engines kick off with the P400 which uses 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with 294kW/550Nm, whilst the P530 is a an all-new engine in the Range Rover lineup featuring a 4.4-litre twin-turbo petrol V8 punching out 390kW/750Nm. All engines come with an eight-speed automatic transmission from ZF, with power sent to all four wheels.

Land Rover has also tried to make the D300, D350 and P400 variants as fuel efficient as possible as these engines feature 48-volt mild-hybrid technology. A full EV is expected to launch in 2024.

2022 Range Rover Design

The new Range Rover features an all new exterior that Land Rover says has been designed to look as if the large SUV has been made from a single piece of metal.

To our eyes, it looks superbly sleek, with almost no gaps. The Velar inspired flush door handles, along with slim headlights up front and glass panels sitting flush with the metal bodywork, all lend credit to Land Rover’s claim that this Range Rover appears to be one solid monolith. At the rear, the vertical LED taillights connect together emphasizing the car’s theme of unity.

Inside, Land Rover have given the 2022 Range Rover an upmarket interior, merging a classy design with modern touches. The new two-spoke steering wheel comes with touch-sensitive controls and is complemented by redesigned climate controls and a proper gear shifter, instead of the old model’s rotary gear shifter.

Under the swanky new body, this latest Range Rover is built on Jaguar Land Rover’s new MLA-Flex architecture which has been designed to save weight, improve driving dynamics and pave the way for an electrified future.

2022 Range Rover Electrification

Expect the P510e plug-in hybrid variant to come later in 2022, with a 38.2kW/h battery positioned beneath the floor powering a a 105kW electric motor which will work in tandem with a six-cylinder petrol engine. The battery offers around 80km of driving range in pure EV form. Expect a proper electric Range Rover to debut in 2024.
