Due in Australian showrooms in the second half of 2023, the Ford Ranger Wildtrak X has been revealed as a new version of the popular Ranger Wildtrak. Sitting above the Wildtrak with extra features but only available with the 150kW 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine – rated to Euro 6 emissions standards for the first time – the Wildtrak X will sit below the recently revealed Ranger Platinum and is priced from $75,990 plus on-road costs.

“We know Australian customers love the versatility their Ranger offers them. Wildtrak X really captures their desire for exploration, with new hardware and features so they can head across the country or go further off-road than ever before,” added Andrew Birkic, President and CEO, Ford Australia and New Zealand.

Externally, the Ford Ranger Wildtrak X adds a number of features on to the Wildtrak on which it’s based. There’s a ‘Cyber Orange’ colour that’s exclusive to the Wildtrak X (and $700 extra), as well as a new front grille with LED driving lamps with an orange accent, a steel bash plate, aluminium side steps, Wildtrak lettering across the bonnet and black Ford badges.

There are new 17-inch alloy wheels with General Grabber AT3 all-terrain tyres, while there are also new Bilstein dampers for increased on- and off-road driving ability. Because of the new suspension and tyres, the Wildtrak X’s track is 30mm wider than the regular Wildtrak, while there is also 26mm more ground clearance.

Ranger Wildtrak X features Ford’s Flexible Rack System that debuted on the Ranger Platinum, which consists of two main components: a sliding load rack that can be locked into five positions along the length of the load bed, and the folding roof racks that store inside the rails when not in use. The flexible load system can be operated by one person and doesn’t require any tools to set up or stow.

The Ford Ranger Wildtrak X also differs from the regular Wildtrak thanks to its four-wheel drive system – instead of the Wildtrak Bi-Turbo’s ‘shift on the fly’ 4×4 system, it’s a full-time 4×4 system. The Wildtrak X has new off-road features: Trail Turn Assist, which brakes the inside rear wheel for increased maneuverability (in 4H or 4L modes at under 19km/h and with the rear differential locked), Trail Control, which is an off-road cruise control for under 32km/h, and a new Rock Crawl driving mode that adapts the drivetrain to rocky terrain.

Inside, the Wildtrak X boasts new leather-accented seats with suede and Wildtrak X embroidered into the seatbacks, upper glovebox and all-weather front and rear floor mats. Suede wraps the glovebox, instrument cluster hood, door trim and centre console rails while ‘Cyber Orange’ contrast stitching is used on the seats, steering wheel, gear shifter, doors and the upper glovebox. The Wildtrak X also has a B&O Sound sound system, and the larger 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster found on the Ranger Raptor and Platinum.

Unlike the Ranger Wildtrak and its optional 184kW/600Nm 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel engine, the Ford Ranger Wildtrak X is only available with the 150kW/500Nm 2.0-litre bi-turbo four-cylinder diesel engine. For the first time, it’s now rated to Euro 6 emissions standards and requires AdBlue exhaust treatment. A 10-speed automatic transmission is standard equipment.
