Almost two years after it was internationally revealed, the 2024 Toyota bZ4X – Toyota’s first electric car in Australia – electric SUV has gone on sale in Australia. Offered in two grades – front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive – the bZ4X is priced from $66,000 plus on-road costs, which is almost $4,000 less than its Subaru Solterra twin (though the Subaru has standard all-wheel drive). Both bZ4X variants feature a 71.4kWh battery and according to Toyota, can travel up to 436km on the WLTP cycle.

Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations Sean Hanley said the bZ4X offers capability, practicality, and value for those suited to a BEV lifestyle.

“The bZ4X is not just an electric car; it’s the foundation for the next phase of our electrification strategy that hits a sweet spot with its mid-size SUV dimensions, space and functionality,” Mr Hanley said.

Based on Toyota’s ‘e-TNGA’ platform, the 2024 Toyota bZ4X features a 71.4kWh lithium ion battery for up to 436km of range on the WLTP cycle for FWD bZ4X and 411km for the AWD model. It can be charged at up to 150kW on a DC fast charger for a 30-minute 10 to 80 per cent charge – AC charging takes up to seven hours at its 7kW maximum.

That battery feeds a 150kW/266Nm electric motor in front-wheel drive models, or two motors in the all-wheel drive variant for 160kW/337Nm total outputs. The bZ4X FWD completes the 0-100km/h sprint in 7.5 seconds, whereas the AWD model does the same in 6.9 seconds.
