The 2024 Kia EV9 electric large SUV has been launched in Australia ahead of imminent local deliveries priced from $97,000 plus on-road costs. The first all-electric large SUV to be launched in Australia, the EV9 uses the same platform as its smaller EV6 sibling, while offering seven seats as standard across the range. Three models will be offered locally initially, with up to 512km of range on the WLTP cycle.

“The eagerly anticipated EV9 is a pivotal model for Kia that turns conventional SUV – and EV – thinking on its head,” said Kia Australia’s Chief Executive Officer, Damien Meredith.

“As the first all-electric Upper Large SUV in Australia, EV9 is unique in giving large families a bold and confident vehicle featuring an array of advanced technology, with expansive battery range and performance, and a refined locally tuned suspension.

Based on the same ‘e-GMP’ platform as cars like its EV6 sibling, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6 and Genesis GV60, the 2024 Kia EV9 uses either a 76.1kWh (Air) or 99.8kWh (Earth and GT-Line) battery pack, with up to 512km of range (mid-spec Earth – the entry-level Air claims 443km and the top-spec GT-Line 505km) on the WLTP cycle.

As for propulsion, the entry-level Air uses a 160kW/350Nm electric motor, while the mid-spec Earth and top-spec GT-Line use a 283kW/700Nm dual-motor set-up. Despite its 2,312kg to 2,636kg weight (Air to GT-Line), the EV9 offers 0-100km/h sprint times from just 5.3 seconds for the GT-Line (Earth: 6.0 seconds, Air: 8.3 seconds).
