Originally revealed in September 2023, the 2024 Hyundai i30 Sedan N is now on sale in Australia priced from $52,000 plus on-road costs or $1,800 more than the pre-facelifted model. The performance variant of the regular i30 sedan that’s also just gone on sale locally, the N has mirrored the regular model with new exterior styling, technological upgrades and more features – though no more performance.

“2024 i30 Sedan N showcases Hyundai’s commitment to bringing motorsport engineering and technology to our road cars, drawing from our TCR Series successes around the world,” said Hyundai Motor Company Australia Chief Executive Officer, Ted Lee.

“With its upgraded chassis, aggressive style and new features, 2024 i30 Sedan N provides an even more engaging and dynamic package for our N-thusiast customers,” he said.

New to the 2024 Hyundai i30 Sedan N is a refreshed design that features upgrades similar to the regular i30 Sedan range. There are also some N-specific visual upgrades that include the restyled front and rear bumpers, new 19-inch alloy wheels borrowed from the i30 N hatchback that reduce weight compared to the pre-facelift wheels and new black badging to replace the usual silver ones.

The front bumper now includes air ducts which allow for more cooling to the front brakes – Hyundai claims that “braking performance and fade resistance is enhanced” because of this.

On the inside are less obvious changes. New features include a larger wireless smartphone charger to account for larger phones and the same black Hyundai badge that features on the outside on the steering wheel. There are also now three USB-C ports throughout the cabin, which includes one in the front and two in the rear.

Now featured is the same intelligent traffic sign recognition system that features on cars like the facelifted Palisade and new Kona. Still lacking, however, from the 2024 Hyundai i30 Sedan N is adaptive cruise control and other upgrades that the facelifted i30 Sedan received such as a 360-degree camera, two extra airbags in the rear and blind-spot view cameras.

Hyundai’s Bluelink app – which can unlock, lock, remote start and set the temperature of the air conditioning in the car – now features on the new 2024 Hyundai i30 Sedan N. Buyers receive a free five-year subscription to the service, which is transferrable to new owners.

Mechanically there have been a few minor changes. The adaptive suspension has been fine tuned for greater range of ability, a new reinforced engine mount membrane claimed to “reduced after shake and improved agility” has been fitted, there are some new suspension bushings, new G-bushing reinforcement for improved yaw response and steering precision and a “rear suspension S/ABS insulator changed from rubber to urethane on rear support for improved damping and [steering] response.” The stability control has also been fine tuned for greater body control.

What has stayed the same since the previous model is the engine. The i30 Sedan N is still powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder powerplant producing 206kW of power and 392Nm of torque with the choice of either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Power is still sent to the front wheels via an electro-mechanical limited-slip differential.
