Australian pricing and specifications for the 2024 GWM Tank 500 have been revealed ahead of its second quarter 2024 Australian release. Priced from $66,490 plus on-road costs for the entry level Lux variant. GWM is a brand that offers a wide range of cars and Utes in Australia to cater for most people. They have expanded their range by adding the Toyota LandCruiser Prado rivalling 2024 GWM Tank 500 to hopefully broaden its horizons even more.

According to the company, “For the savvy customers looking for the ultimate 4WD 7-seater large SUV, GWM is excited to introduce the all-new body-on-frame Tank 500 to the Australian market. This top-of-the-range SUV sets a new benchmark in the segment, offering unparalleled hybrid performance, off-road capability, state-of-the-art technology, and a unique blend of power, luxury, and ruggedness.”

“The Tank 500 is a true powerhouse, boasting a robust hybrid drivetrain that delivers strong efficiency and dynamic performance. With advanced safety features and a variety of convenience features such as auto reverse assist, it delivers an unmatched driving experience.”

With two variants available at launch, the 2024 GWM Tank 500 will be priced at $66,490 drive away for the entry-level Lux trim – pricing for the higher-spec Ultra is to come later.

Under the bonnet of the Tank 500 is a similar powertrain seen to that in the GWM Tank 300 Hybrid: a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine combined with an electric motor for total outputs of 255kW of power and 648Nm of torque. The sole transmission is a nine-speed torque converter automatic and all Tank 500 models are four-wheel drive. The braked towing capacity for the Tank 500 is 3,000kg with an unbraked towing capacity of 750kg.

GWM claims that the Tank 500 will consume 8.5L/100km of fuel on a combined cycle, which is similar to a diesel-powered Toyota LandCruiser Prado. The Tank 500 has an 80-litre fuel tank.

The 4×4 system offered on the Tank 500 is different to those seen in the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Toyota LandCruiser Prado and offers 2H, AWD, 4H and 4L modes. It can go between AWD and RWD on sealed surfaces, unlike a lot of other systems which offer just 2H and 4H modes. There is also a rear differential lock, low-range transfer case, turn assist function, and 11 drive modes. Headline figures include 224mm of ground clearance, an 800mm wading depth, 30-degree approach angle, 22.5-degree breakover angle, and a 24-degree departure angle.
