Australian pricing for the 2024 BYD Seal has been announced ahead of its local arrival in December 2023. Available to order now, the Seal is priced from $49,888 plus on-road costs for the entry-level Dynamic – the mid-spec Premium is priced from $58,798 +ORC and the top-spec Performance $10,000 higher at $68,798 +ORC. It’s available with up to 570km of range on the WLTP cycle and up to 390kW of power from its dual-motor drivetrain.

The Seal is the third model to launch in Australia from BYD after the Atto 3 SUV and Dolphin small car, which launches soon. Using a rear-wheel drive platform, the entry-level Seal Dynamic uses a 61.44kWh battery pack for a claimed 460km of range on the WLTP cycle. The Dynamic uses a 150kW/310Nm electric motor for a claimed 7.5-second 0-100km/h sprint time.

Above the Dynamic sits the Premium, which uses a larger 82.56kWh battery for a claimed WLTP range of 570km. The Premium uses a more powerful 230kW/360Nm motor for a claimed 5.9-second 0-100km/h sprint. Above the Premium sits the Performance, which uses the same battery as the Premium but adds a second electric motor on the front axle for 390kW/670Nm outputs and a downgrade in WLTP range due to added weight to 520km. The claimed 0-100km/h sprint for the Performance is 3.8 seconds.

The Dynamic can be charged at up to 110kW on a DC fast charger, while the Premium and Performance can be charged faster at 150kW for a 30 to 80 per cent charge in as little as 26 minutes. Both batteries can be charged using an AC charger at 7kW.

The Seal measures 4800mm long, 1875mm wide and 1460mm tall, riding on a 2920mm wheelbase – that makes it a full 106mm longer than the Tesla Model 3. The Seal has a 400-litre boot with a further 50-litres of space available underneath the bonnet.
