Honda Australia has confirmed that the 2023 Honda ZR-V will be launched in Australia in July 2023. Previously confirmed by Honda Australia as a new SUV addition to the local range but with no further detail given, the ZR-V has finally been confirmed for local sales, and it will sit between the HR-V and the CR-V in the local Honda lineup. Confusingly called HR-V in North America – where our smaller HR-V is not sold – the ZR-V is sized similarly to the Mazda CX-5 and will offer four models and even a hybrid drivetrain when it launches locally.

“At Honda Australia, we are committed to bringing joyful and premium experiences through our products and services, during the moments that matter. As the first new Honda SUV model launched since 1999, we are thrilled to offer Australians a medium-size SUV with sporty drivability, in-car smart connectivity, and elevated contemporary design features,” said Carolyn McMahon, Director, Honda Australia.

“This is an exciting time for Honda Australia, as we continue to see a shift in the SUV market in Australia and an opportunity for growth in the medium-SUV segment. We are committed to providing Australians with a medium SUV that is comfortable and fun to drive, with a sleek interior and sporty silhouette that reflects the individual personalities of Australians. The Honda ZR-V’s form and function will redefine how SUVs are seen, and we’re excited to bring it to our customers in 2023.”

Four grades of the 2023 Honda ZR-V will be available in Australia: the entry-level VTi, the mid-spec VTi L and top-spec VTi-LX petrol variants with the e:HEV L hybrid also part of the range. Full specifications are yet to be announced, however the whole range will be equipped with LED exterior lighting with auto high beam, a 9.0-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, front and rear parking sensors and five years of Honda’s new telematic live services.

The whole range will also include the ‘HondaSensing’ suite of active safety equipment like auto emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and traffic sign recognition. The entry-level VTi will ride on 17-inch alloy wheels and the rest of the range using larger 18-inch units.

Two drivetrains will be available, both shared with the Civic small car: a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine and a 2.0-litre hybrid. Australian outputs are yet to be confirmed but overseas, the former makes 131kW/240Nm and the latter 135kW/315Nm. Overseas, both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive is available, but Honda Australia is yet to confirm which will be offered locally.

The 2023 Honda ZR-V will launch in Australia in July 2023, with local pricing and full specifications to be announced in the coming months. Stay tuned to DiscoverAuto for the latest automotive news and reviews.
