Toyota Australia has revealed pricing and specifications for the new 2021 Toyota HiLux. This is an important vehicle as the HiLux is currently the best selling vehicle in the country. The new 2021 HiLux will go on sale on the 27th of August.

Toyota’s Australian engineers were involved in the development of a more powerful 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine that improves acceleration, overtaking and towing performance. Some of the changes to the 2021 Toyota HiLux include an increased 150kW power figure and automatic models have a peak torque figure of 500Nm. HiLux 4×2 Workmate single and double cabs are also available with the 122kW/245Nm 2.7-litre four-cylinder petrol engine matched with either a five-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic.

On SR and SR5, drivers can choose two modes: eco which reduces throttle response in favour of fuel economy and power to provide sharper acceleration response for a more engaging drive.

The suspension setup and chassis of the new 2021 Toyota HiLux has been altered to achieve an improvement in ride quality with an empty tray, along with better handling and even better stability when towing. The diesel variants of the new HiLux have also had the steering system revised to offer a more connected feel at speed.

Braked towing capacity for the new 2021 Toyota HiLux is now rated at 3,500kg for the 4×4 models while 4×2 diesel models will be rated at 2,800kg. This is an increase of up to 300kg.

Standard equipment on the 2021 Toyota HiLux has increased so you now get an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and voice recognition. New dials will feature on the new HiLux as well as a 4.2-inch colour information display which will incorporate a digital speedometer among other features.

A new larger style front grille will feature on the 2021 Toyota HiLux which is coloured black on the Workmate, grey on the SR and chrome on the SR5. The headlights, as before will be halogen on the base workmate and SR models but new LED lights will feature on the SR5 and above.

Workmate 4×2 models will retain 16-inch steel wheels while Hi-Rider and 4×4 single-cab Workmates and SRs will have 17″ silver steel wheels with all-terrain 225/70R17C tyres. 4×4 extra and double cab Workmates & SRs will be fitted with 17″ black steel wheels and all-terrain 265/65R17 tyres. The 17″ alloy wheel available with the SR option pack have changed to a dark-grey finish while retaining the 265/65R17 all-terrain tyres. The 18″ SR5 wheel, shod with 265/60R18 rubber, changes to a two-tone machine finish.

The 2021 Toyota HiLux SR5 comes standard with satellite navigation and digital radio. There are six speakers for SR and SR5 double cabs, four for SR and SR5 extra cabs and two for single cabs and Workmate variants.

The HiLux Workmate has black fabric seat and vinyl floor coverings, while SR and SR5 feature a high-grade, embossed cloth black seat. SR retains its vinyl flooring while SR and SR5 double cabs have a 60/40 split base for the rear seat and a stowable armrest. In addition, the SR5 is fitted with a premium shift knob and steering wheel and chrome door handles. All grades now receive all-weather floor mats.

Carried over from the previous model is the full range of electronic braking and traction-control technologies, emergency stop signal, reversing camera, seven airbags, and seatbelt reminders for all seats. Downhill Assist Control is standard on all 4×4 SR5 variants and 4×4 automatic SR double cabs (including cab-chassis). Toyota’s ‘Safety Sense’ technologies in the new 2021 Toyota HiLux are a pre-collision system that can detect and brake for pedestrians and cyclists, adaptive cruise control and lane-departure alert warning that offers steering assist.

HiLux 4×4 SR double-cab pick-ups can be specified with a $2,000 option package that includes 17-inch alloy wheels, satellite navigation and digital radio.

A $2,500 option for 4×4 SR5 double cabs adds leather-accented seats and door trim, and heated front seats with 8-way power adjustment for the driver and 4-way manual adjustment for the passenger. These two options extend the core HiLux range to 33 variants.
