Isuzu Ute Australia has launched the mid-life update for its D-Max ute, which is now in local IUA dealerships. Priced from $32,700 plus on-road costs – or $32,490 drive away in a permanent special deal – the updated 2024 Isuzu D-Max is priced up to $3,000 more than the pre-updated model, but ushers in updated styling, a newly-permanent X-Rider model and new features across the range.

“This update marks the most comprehensive update to the D-Max since local debut,” said Isuzu Ute Australia Managing Director, Junta Matsui.

“As one of Australia’s top-selling vehicles, the D-Max represents exceptional value for money and with the addition of some new safety features, it is once again one of Australia’s safest vehicles on sale with segment leading standardised safety features on every single model—from the entry-level SX to the flagship X-Terrain.

Not an all-new model but a mid-life facelift, the 2024 Isuzu D-Max has been given updated front and rear styling with new grilles, new headlights and new bumpers. Across the range are new wheels up to 18-inches in size, while at the rear are new LED tailights on certain ute variants.

Inside the D-Max range has also seen changes with new trims across the range, as well as new infotainment systems that now feature wireless Android Auto smartphone mirroring. Available in 8.0-inch (SX, LS-M and X-Rider) or 9.0-inch (LS-U, LS-U+ and X-Terrain) sizes, the new systems have new software and unlike the pre-updated model, knobs for the volume and tuning now feature, as well as settings for the active safety equipment are now in the centre screen and not in the digital driver’s display. As before, wireless and wired Apple CarPlay and DAB+ digital radio feature.

On D-Max LS-U, LS-U+ and X-Terrain models is also a new 7.0-inch digital driver’s display – models below keep the same 4.2-inch screen from the pre-updated model and the former USB-A ports have been updated to the faster USB-C standard.

Other new features include a new ‘Gen 4’ active safety stereo camera for a wider field of view, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality and lane keeping assistance for manual models, welcome lighting and rear auto braking.

Under the bonnet of the 2024 Isuzu D-Max continues to be two four-cylinder turbo-diesel engines: either a 110kW/350Nm 1.9-litre unit or a larger 140kW/450Nm 3.0-litre unit. A six-speed manual is available on some versions of the SX base model, while all other variants feature a six-speed automatic. Depending on the variant, both 4×2 and 4×4 drivetrains are available, the latter with 2H, 4H and 4L modes and a rear differential lock and rough terrain mode as standard equipment.

For claimed combined fuel consumption, the 1.9-litre engine ranges between 6.7L/100km and 7.0L/100km, depending on the variant, and for the 3.0-litre engine, between 7.7L/100km and 8.0L/100km. The D-Max range is complied to Euro 5 emissions standards and its claimed CO2 emissions are rated at between 184g/km and 207g/km. All variants have a 76-litre fuel tank, while the 1.9L variants are rated to tow a 2,800kg braked trailer with a maximum down weight of 300kg and the 3.0L is rated to tow 3,500kg with a maximum down weight of 350kg.
