Bringing a huge stylistic change and even more technology across the range, the fifth-generation 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe has gone on sale in Australia. Priced from $55,000 plus on-road costs, the new Santa Fe is initially only available as a hybrid with the previous petrol V6 and four-cylinder diesel drivetrains shelved globally and a turbo-petrol engine option arriving later this year.

“Now in its fifth generation, all-new Santa Fe brings expansive space and extensive equipment to give adventurous families an attractive, rugged and sophisticated three-row SUV,” Hyundai Motor Company Australia Chief Executive Officer, Ted Lee said.

“All-new Santa Fe’s roomy third row, expanded cargo area and wider tailgate give customers the space to escape and enjoy the great outdoors, with an array of convenience and connectivity technology at their fingertips,” he said.

2024 Hyundai Santa Fe interior

Both the exterior and interior of the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe are hugely different stylistically compared to the previous model, with Hyundai’s new blocky and futuristic design theme from its Ioniq electric cars used inside and out.

Measuring 4,830mm long, 1,900mm wide and 1,770mm tall with a 2,815mm long wheelbase, the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe is 45mm longer, the same width, 60mm taller and riding on a 50mm longer wheelbase than the previous model. Its boot measures 628-litres with just the second row of seats up (57L larger than the last model) and 1,949L with all the seats folded.

Under the bonnet of the entire Santa Fe range for now is a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated to a 1.49kWh lithium-ion battery hybrid drivetrain making a combined 172kW of power and 367Nm of torque. That’s mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and can be had with either front-wheel drive in the base model, or all-wheel drive elsewhere in the range. The Santa Fe hybrid’s claimed combined fuel consumption is rated at just 5.6L/100km and its CO2 emissions at 128g/km.

Later in 2024, a 206kW/422Nm 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that’s also used in the Sonata mid-size sedan will join the range paired to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The petrol Santa Fe will also be available in either front- or all-wheel drive, with pricing yet to be confirmed.
