Not long after its global reveal, it has been confirmed that the all-new 2023 Volkswagen Amarok will land in Australia in April 2023. Initially, only the top-spec models – the Style, PanAmericana and Aventura – will be available with the lower-spec Life models due to arrive from mid 2023. Heavily based on the excellent new Ford Ranger, the new Amarok will launch with three available engines.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles director Ryan Davies said the second-generation Amarok line-up has been honed to complement existing Volkswagen ute strengths with new answers to customer demand.

“With a new turbo petrol engine, steering and suspension tuned by the finest Volkswagen engineers, and exclusive details such as a leather-covered dash, premium audio, and widescreen Digital Cockpit, this Amarok more than answers our customer demands.” Mr Davies said.

While the second-generation 2023 Volkswagen Amarok isn’t all-Volkswagen, it was developed in Australia like its Ranger sibling, and Volkswagen sent over 20 engineers to live here for the past three years while it was being developed. Australia is the largest global market for the Amarok.

According to Volkswagen Australia, the Amarok will initially be available in only Style (which replaces the Highline), PanAmericana and top-spec Aventura (the latter two will replace the current Aventura). The lower-spec Life will arrive later in 2023.

Equipment on the Style will include Matrix LED headlights, a 12-inch touchscreen with navigation, a 12-inch digital driver’s display and 10-way driver/8-way passenger electrically adjustable front seats with heating as standard.

The PanAmericana adds all-terrain 18-inch tyres and a darkened sports exterior accents with a leather-covered dashboard and Harman/Kardon premium audio and the Aventura adds 21-inch wheels, ‘Savona’ leather upholstery, an electronic roll cover and chrome accented exterior. According to the company, 78 per cent of Amarok buyers in 2022 have chosen a higher grade.

Initially, there will be three engines available in the 2023 Volkswagen Amarok: the 154kW/500Nm 2.0-litre bi-turbo four-cylinder diesel and 180kW/600Nm 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel from the Australian-spec Ranger. Volkswagen will also sell a petrol-powered Amarok – which isn’t available in the Ranger – with a 222kW/452Nm 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine from Ford’s EcoBoost family.

All engines are mated to a 10-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

The Style will be available with either diesel engine, the PanAmericana will be V6 diesel only and the Aventura will be offered with either the V6 diesel or turbo-four petrol engine.

Volkswagen is yet to confirm pricing for the new Amarok, but it’s likely to be positioned above its Ranger sibling, which kicks off from $49,930 in entry-level XL dual-cab 4×4 form.

The high-end models in the 2023 Volkswagen Amarok range will land locally in April 2023, with cheaper variants due in mid-2023. Stay tuned to DiscoverAuto for the latest automotive news and reviews.
