First deliveries of the 2023 Toyota Kluger will arrive in Australia in January 2023 sporting a new turbo engine and equipment upgrades. Now priced up to $2,460 higher than the 2022 Kluger, the upgraded model’s V6 engine has been replaced by a more efficient turbo four-cylinder unit, while all models have upgraded to the latest generation of Toyota infotainment software with wireless Apple CarPlay and a screen size of up to 12.3-inches.

Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations Sean Hanley said the Kluger upgrades demonstrate Toyota’s dedication to continually improving its products.

“Since launching last year, the new-generation Kluger has been a hit with Australians wanting the perfect family SUV,” Mr Hanley said.

Under the bonnet of the 2023 Toyota Kluger is a new 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, which pumps out 198kW of power and 420Nm of torque – 20kW less but 70Nm more than the current 3.5-litre V6, and peak torque now hits at 1,700rpm, which is 3,000rpm lower than the V6. It’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and is available in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Fuel consumption for the new engine is rated at 8.3L/100km, which is an 0.4L/100km improvement on the V6, but still more than the hybrid’s 5.6L/100km claim.

Aside from the new engine, there have been a number of small changes to the 2023 Toyota Kluger lineup. It has upgraded to the latest generation of Toyota infotainment software, with the mid-spec GXL and top-spec Grande using a new 12.3-inch touchscreen. The base GX has upgraded to a new 7.0-inch information screen, while the Grande uses a 12.3-inch fully digital display.

The base model GX also now features tri-zone climate control, while the Grande now features a wireless phone charger.

Why is it fuel consumption is only quoted as combined with Toyota? It’s impossible to establish separate highway and city fuel consumption on Toyota vehicles, they don’t even list it in their product brochure/spec sheets. They must have something to hide.
