The 2023 Haval Jolion S has been launched in Australia as a more powerful and sportier variant of Haval’s popular small SUV range. Launching alongside the regular Jolion range, which includes the recently launched Ultra Hybrid, the Jolion S includes a more powerful engine, suspension changes and sportier styling details. It’s priced from $36,990 drive away and the first examples land locally soon.

Under the bonnet of the 2023 Haval Jolion S is a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which makes 130kW of power and 270Nm of torque – 20kW and 50Nm more than the regular non-hybrid Jolion. It’s mated to the same seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission as the petrol Jolion range, while its fuel consumption is rated at 7.5L/100km – 0.6L/100km less than the petrol Jolion.

The 2023 Haval Jolion S also features a multi-link rear suspension set up for enhanced ride and handling, which replaces the torsion beam set up of the rest of the Jolion range.

Other additions to the Jolion S include black 18-inch alloy wheels, black door mirrors, black roof rails, a black side garnish and blacked-out lower front and rear bumpers.

Inside the Jolion S are new physical climate controls, which have replaced the touchscreen controls of the rest of the Jolion range for greater usability. The rest of the Jolion S’ equipment matches the Ultra, which includes automatic all-LED lighting, auto wipers, synthetic leather upholstery with a six-way powered driver’s seat, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and start and heated and auto-folding mirrors.

Safety equipment includes seven airbags, auto emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian, cyclist and crossroads detection, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, blind-spot detection and lane change assist, forward collision warning (FCW) and traffic sign recognition.

Completing the sporty makeover, the 2023 Haval Jolion S is available in a new colour: ‘Tropical Green’, which is only available on the S and costs $495 extra, like the other premium colours available on the whole Jolion range.

Love the thought of the extra power from the 1.5 litre engine. But do I have to endure all the black bits ? Wheels, mirrors ect. are not for me. I love all the shiny bits on the Ultra but would prefer the option of the more powerful engine.
