To match their new Tonale small SUV sibling, the 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio have been given a light update for 2023. Already some of our favourite offerings in the premium mid-size sedan and premium mid-size SUV segments, the 2023 update for the Giulia and Stelvio give them more technology, a slightly sharper look and a revised model lineup. They’re both due in Australia in the first half of 2023.
According to Alfa Romeo, “these two award-winning models have won over the international community thanks both to the brand’s trademark excellence—perfect weight distribution, best-in-class driving dynamics, top-of-the-line technological and motor solutions—and to the timeless design which makes any Alfa Romeo vehicle a long-lasting “moving work of art”.
“Alfa Romeo’s distinct take on the beauty of Italian design has been made even more seductive and contemporary on both models with stylistic interventions being made on their fronts to create a clear and strong family feeling with the Tonale.”
The most obvious change to the 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio are the new headlights, which use the same ‘3+3’ daytime running light arrangement as the Tonale. They are now Matrix LED instead of bi-xenon, and feature dynamic indicators at the front end. The tailights are slightly different, though only the colouring has changed.
Inside the 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio is a new 12.3-inch digital driver’s display with three modes: evolved, relax and heritage. Elsewhere in the cabin is a new system called Alfa Connected Services, which allows for over-the-air updates and for customers to be able to control functions of the car – like locking and unlocking – through their smartphones.
The Giulia and Stelvio will also feature Non-Fungible Token (NFT) technology, which generates a certificate on where data was recorded with the vehicle’s life. This enhances resale value, according to Alfa Romeo, “provides a further source of credibility which helps the owner/reseller, but also reassures the buyer in the choice of a used vehicle”.
The mechanicals of the 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio have been left alone, with the two engine options in Australia – a 206kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine and a 375kW/600Nm 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged petrol V6 in the Quadrifoglio – likely to continue as before. Both are matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive in the Stelvio (the Giulia is rear-wheel drive).
Alfa Romeo has also altered the lineups of both the Giulia and Stelvio to fit in line with the Tonale. Currently, just an entry-level Veloce and top-spec – and fire-breathing – Quadrifoglio are on offer but with the facelift, Super, Sprint, Ti and Veloce will be on offer (under the Quadrifoglio, which is yet to be revealed).
Offered at launch will be a Competizione limited edition, which is based on the Veloce and features ‘Moon Grey’ matte grey paintwork, 21-inch wheels on the Stelvio, a Harmon Kardon sound system, black leather with red stitching and Competizione badging.
The 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio will launch in Australia in the first half of 2023, with local pricing and specifications to be announced before then. Stay tuned to DiscoverAuto for the latest automotive news and reviews.
