Skoda has given its Karoq small-to-mid size SUV its midlife facelift for the 2022 model year. Due on sale in Australia in the first half of 2022, the 2022 Skoda Karoq ushers in a new look, new technology and a larger colour palette to keep it fresh against a sea of competitors – while also keeping it in line with newer Skoda products such as the smaller Kamiq and also recently updated Kodiaq

Thomas Schäfer, Škoda Auto CEO, said: “With over half a million units sold, the Karoq is key to our brand’s success. To ensure that this will remain the case, we have developed it further: now sporting a fresher design and optimised aerodynamics along with state-of-the-art assistance systems and infotainment features. I am confident that this overall package will enable us to continue the Karoq’s success story.”

The most obvious changes to the 2022 Skoda Karoq have been the exterior styling, which has been adopted new bumpers, revised lighting, a larger grille, a new range of wheel designs and a new range of colours. The lighting is now all-LED with newly-optionally available Matrix adaptive high beam functionality joining the Karoq range. Scrolling rear indicators now feature, while the daytime running lights are now split into two and the Karoq’s body changes have reduced its drag by nine per cent to 0.30Cd.

The dimensions of the 2022 Skoda Karoq have changed slightly with this facelift. It measures 4,390mm long (+8mm), 1,841mm wide (+0mm) and has a wheelbase of between 2,630 and 2,638mm long (unchanged). The boot measures from 521-litres (588L with the Varioflex removable rear seats) to 1,605L (1,810L with the Varioflex seats removed).

Inside the 2022 Skoda Karoq has been treated to very subtle updates, including a new range of trims and the latest generation Volkswagen Group infotainment systems with inbuilt SIM cards (we’re hoping that comes to Australia) to enable features such as smartphone locking.

A new range of trims are available, including a new vegan-friendly option. A newly available electrically adjustable passenger’s seat is now available in Europe, as is extended ambient lighting to the rear seat as well. Finally, a 360-degree parking camera is now available.

Engines for the 2022 Skoda Karoq in Europe have been upgraded to the latest generation ‘Evo’ turbocharged Volkswagen Group units. An 81kW 1.0-litre three-cylinder, a 110kW 1.5-litre four-cylinder and a 140kW 2.0-litre four-cylinder complete the petrol engines, while a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel in either 85kW or 110kW forms will be available too.

Australian-spec engines will carry over from the current model with a 110kW/250Nm 1.4-litre turbo petrol with an eight-speed automatic transmission as the entry-level car, with the 140kW/320Nm 2.0-litre turbo petrol with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and all-wheel drive serving in the top-spec Sportline.
