The 2022 MG ZS EV has gone on sale in Australia priced from $43,990 plus on-road costs ($44,990 drive away), which makes it the cheapest electric vehicle in Australia. Comprehensively updated compared to the pre-facelifted model, the new ZS EV has a bigger battery for more driving range, a new look with more modern styling, an updated interior with new materials and more standard equipment.

Peter Ciao, CEO at MG Motor Australia & New Zealand said the new ZS EV sets a new
standard for electric vehicles in Australia and demonstrates MG’s commitment to making EVs
accessible for everyone.

“We have been successful in offering the Australian market unparalleled value and we are now
entering a new phase of our growth with the new ZS EV. This is the first step in our new journey to an
electric future that’s here today.” he said.

Stylistically, the 2022 MG ZS EV is more modern to look at compared with the pre-updated model, with new LED headlights and tailights taken from the petrol-powered ZS T. A new range of colours is offered, while there are new 17-inch alloy wheels across the range. The interior of the ZS EV is new, with a new 10.1-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as satellite navigation.

The 2022 MG ZS EV debuts MG’s ‘iSmart’ software, which is backed by Amazon’s AWS cloud-based system. It allows owners to perform over-the-air updates, remote air-conditioning control and door locking, real-time navigation, ‘find my car’ parking lot search, live weather updates and stream audio from Amazon Music.

Under the bonnet of the 2022 MG ZS EV is an electric motor powering the front wheels that pumps out 130kW of power and 280Nm of torque that allows for a 8.2 second 0-100km/h sprint. That draws power from a 50.3kWh lithium ion battery pack that’s mounted under the floor. Using the strict WLTP standard, the ZS EV offers up to 320km of driving range.

Using a 50kW electric charger gives a 0-80 per cent charge in 54 minutes – using a slower 7kW charger will give a full charge in around eight hours.

Standard equipment on the 2022 MG ZS EV Excite ($44,990 drive away) includes 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED lighting, a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, digital radio, satellite navigation, a digital driver’s display, a four-speaker sound system, manual air-conditioning, push button start and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Safety equipment includes six airbags, auto emergency braking (AEB), lane keep assist with departure warning, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, traffic jam assist, tyre pressure monitoring, adaptive speed assist, auto high beam and a 360-degree parking camera.

The upper spec ZS EV Essence ($48,990 drive away) adds synthetic leather upholstery, roof rails, auto wipers, a six-way electric driver’s seat, heated front seats two extra speakers, auto-folding mirrors, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless phone charger and blind-spot monitoring with rear-cross traffic alert.

Buyers can choose from five colours: ‘York White’ and ‘Pebble Black’ are no-cost, with ‘Brighton Blue’, ‘Sloane Silver’ and ‘Diamond Red’ costing $700 extra.
