Pricing for the 2021 Toyota Yaris Cross has been announced ahead of a November 2nd on sale date in Australia. Kicking off from $26,990 plus on-road costs, the Yaris Cross sits below the larger C-HR as the brand’s entry level SUV. Like the Yaris on which it’s based, it will be offered in both petrol and hybrid forms, and in three specs: GX, GXL and Urban.
Sitting on the same TNGA platform as its Yaris sibling, the Yaris Cross measures 4,180mm long, 1,765mm wide and 1,560mm tall – 240mm longer, 20mm wider and 90mm taller than the Yaris hatchback. Bootspace is claimed to be 390L – more than 100L bigger than the Yaris – and 40/20/40-split rear seats will be available as well.
Under the bonnet of the 2021 Toyota Yaris Cross will be an 88kW/145Nm 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, or for $2,000 more, an 85kW 1.5-litre four-cylinder hybrid that features two electric motors, which is capable of combined fuel consumption of just 3.8L/100km. Both engines are mated to a CVT automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, though the hybrid is available with an e-AWD system that adds a third electric motor on the rear axle.
Three specs of 2021 Toyota Yaris Cross will be available in Australia: GX, GXL and Urban. The GX is equipped with features such as climate control, automatic headlights, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless entry and start and a reversing camera.
Safety kit is well taken care of too with multiple airbags (including two centre airbags), automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and intersection assistance, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and auto high beam.
The GXL adds inbuilt satellite navigation, larger 17-inch wheels, LED headlights and blind-spot monitoring while the Urban adds 18s, an electric driver’s seat, heated front seats and an electric bootlid with kick-to-open functionality.
