Jaguar Land Rover Australia has announced updates to the 2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport and 2021 Range Rover Evoque ahead of their respective local arrivals in the fourth quarter of 2020. Aimed at simplifying their respective ranges, just five (down from 10) Discovery Sport and four (down from 26!) Evoque variants will be available.
In addition to massively simplified ranges, both models now come with new mild-hybrid diesel drivetrains: the 120kW D165 (replacing the former D150) and the 150kW D200 (which replaces the former D180). Both are 2.0-litres in size and both feature mild-hybrid tech to improve fuel economy and emissions.
The petrol P200 (147kW) and P250 (184kW) units carry over from the pre-update models – a P160 three-cylinder drivetrain and P300E plug-in hybrid are on offer in Europe though won’t be sold in Australia for now.
The available tech in both models has also been upgraded with new ‘Pivi’ and ‘Pivi Pro’ infotainment systems depending on model – these include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring, an embedded data connection for live traffic reporting and other features, Spotify integration for users, dual-phone Bluetooth connectivity, wireless phone charging and over-the-air software upgrades.
Both also include a new cabin air filtration system to ensure clean air inside the cabin – the system also uses cabin air ionization to filer out allergens, pollen and smells. A purify mode can be selected to monitor the quality of air entering the cabin.
Active safety equipment is stronger too with a new 360-degree camera to help with low speed maneuvering, and automatic rear braking.
The company’s ‘activity key’ has been upgraded to unlock the vehicle it is paired with within a certain proximity.
In both models, the R-Dynamic design package has been made standard equipment thanks to a high take up rate.
The 2021 Land Rover Discovery and 2021 Range Rover Evoque will go on sale in Australia in the fourth quarter of 2020, with local spec to be announced before then.
