Pricing and specifications of the 2021 Genesis GV80 SUV have been announced ahead of the car’s local launch in October. The first SUV from Hyundai’s luxury arm, the GV80 will be priced from $90,600 plus on-road costs and will be offered with three drivetrains, two seat layouts and in standard and Luxury Package forms.

The entry level GV80 is the 2.5T, which is powered by a new 224kW/422Nm 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 2.5T is available in either five-seat rear-wheel drive, or for $95,600, an all-wheel drive model that comes with seven seats.

A new 204kW/588Nm 3.0-litre turbo diesel engine is also available in seven-seat AWD form – from $103,600 – while a 279kW/530Nm 3.5-litre turbo petrol V6 starts from $108,600.

All four drivetrains are equipped the same with standard kit including a huge 14.5-inch touchscreen with augmented reality navigation, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, leather upholstery, ambient lighting, a panoramic glass sunroof, a power tailgate, a 12.0-inch heads-up display, 12-way electrically adjustable front seats with both heating and cooling, remote start, wireless phone charging and a powerful 1,050W Lexicon 21-speaker sound system.

Standard active safety tech includes 10 airbags, forward collision warning with auto emergency braking that includes car/pedestrian/cyclist detection and junction turning monitoring, driver attention monitoring, lane departure warning, lane keep assist with lane following assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and avoidance, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, auto high beam, rear occupant alert, safe exit assist, and a 360-degree parking camera.

V6 models also pack larger 22-inch alloy wheels (vs 20s on the four-cylinder), an electro-mechanical limited slip differential and adaptive dampers that scan the road ahead to prepare for upcoming bumps and other changes in the road.

A terrain/drive mode selector provides eco, comfort and sport driving modes for road use, as well as snow, mud and sand driving for off-road driving (AWD-only).

Buyers can also choose the Luxury Package, which adds $10,000 to the price of each GV80. The package includes Nappa leather upholstery, suede headlining/pillars, forward attention warning, parking collision avoidance assist, rear privacy glass, a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, tri-zone climate control, remote parking from the key, heated and ventilated second row seats, power adjustable second- and third-row seating, soft-close doors and an 18-way electrically adjustable massaging driver’s seat.

Buyers can also choose from three matte colours, which are priced at $3,000 – metallic paint is an otherwise no-cost option.

The 2021 Genesis GV80 goes officially on sale in October. Like other Genesis models, GV80 pricing includes a five-year warranty with five years/50,000km of servicing with a valet service.
