Volkswagen Group Australia has continued its new product resurgence locally with the launch of the 2020 Skoda Superb Scout, fresh on the heels of the newly launched Scala. Priced from $59,490 plus on-road costs ($61,990 drive away nationwide), the Scout is the only model available so far in the updated Superb range. It competes with cars such as the Subaru Outback, Volvo V90 Cross Country and Audi A6 allroad.

Just one spec of Scout is available locally thus far: the 200TSI. It’s equipped with – as the name suggests – a 200kW/350Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine matched to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system. Skoda claims a 0-100km/h sprint time of 5.7 seconds and fuel consumption of 7.1L/100km.

The Superb Scout is the first Skoda product sold locally that uses a petrol particulate filter (PPF) to lower emissions. Because of Australia’s high-content fuel, owners must use a minimum of 95RON fuel to ensure the PPF does not get clogged.

The 2020 Skoda Superb Scout’s equipment list is long, with standard kit including Matrix LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery with heated front and rear seats, electric front seats with memory functionality, a 9.2-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation, digital radio, a reversing camera, digital driver’s dials and an electric bootlid with kick-to-open functionality.

Safety kit is well taken care of too with auto emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist, auto parking, lane assist, adaptive auto high beam, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, reverse auto braking and nine airbags

The Scout name adds 15mm higher suspension and body cladding for a more off-road look to the Superb name, and carries the baton on from the Octavia Scout in Australia.

There are only a few options to tick: metallic paint (between $770 and 1,700), $900 19-inch alloy wheels and a $1,900 panoramic glass sunroof. Skoda also offers a five-year service pack for $1,700.
