Australian pricing has been announced for the new Volvo EX90 seven-seat electric large SUV, which is due on sale soon. Priced from $124,990 plus on-road costs for the Plus – the current entry point to the range – the EX90 is priced below German competition, and even includes a five-year service plan.
Two models will be available in the EX90 range from launch: the entry Plus ($124,990 +ORC) and the higher-spec Ultra ($134,990 +ORC). Volvo is yet to announce local specification levels, but one key difference between the two is the drivetrain: the Plus outputs 300kW/770Nm, while the Ultra upping the ante to 380kW/910Nm. The Ultra hits 100kmh/h in just 4.5 seconds, which is not too far behind the current fastest Volvo: the much smaller EX30 Twin.
Both share a huge 111kWh nickel manganese cobalt battery for a claimed range of up to 570km (WLTP), and 250kW DC fast charging capability. According to Volvo, it can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in as little as 30 minutes and AC charged at up to 11kW for a full charge in little over 10 hours.
Inside the EX90 is Volvo’s ‘Nordico’ upholstery, a 14.5-inch touchscreen with inbuilt Google and a 25-speaker Bowers and Wilkins sound system.
Competition for the EX90 includes the Polestar 3 – which shares its mechanicals – and Cadillac Lyriq, as well as the BMW iX and Mercedes EQE SUV. All those cars are five-seaters, however – the EX90 is equipped with seven full-sized seats as standard.
