Ahead of a March 2023 Australian release, the 2023 Mazda CX-8 has been revealed. Sporting a look that’s similar to its smaller CX-5 sibling – which was also recently updated – the facelifted CX-8 introduces new technology, new styling and new standard features to the popular six/seven-seat SUV. The update will keep the CX-8 fresh in its sales battle against cars like the Kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa Fe, Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace.
Mazda Australia Managing Director, Vinesh Bhindi, said the updated CX-8’s myriad new features and redesigned appearance would ensure it stayed at the top of buyers’ wish lists.
“The Australian consumer has embraced Mazda CX-8 – its combination of elegance and practicality makes it a compelling package that’s hard to ignore.
“With this latest update, the 2023 Mazda CX-8 has taken the game to another level, with both styling and technology that will ensure it’s a hit with Australian buyers for years to come.
Stylistically, the 2023 Mazda CX-8 takes the latest changes to the CX-5 like revised bumpers, new all-LED lighting units and new alloy wheels and applies it to its larger seven-seat body. The Matrix LED headlights – likely for the top-spec car – now feature 20 units, instead of 12, for enhanced functionality.
Inside the 2023 Mazda CX-8, all models now feature the latest ‘Mazda Connect’ infotainment system with a 10.25-inch screen with a rotary controller on the centre console. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto now feature, while the car’s former USB-A ports have been replaced with quicker charging USB-C units.
The full CX-8 range will receive a 7.0-inch digital driver’s display, while the windows will now be able to be opened from the key. The car’s noise insulation has reportedly been improved, while there’s also an off-road mode been added to the ‘Mi Drive’ drive mode selection.
The available drivetrains – a 140kW/252Nm 2.5-litre petrol engine and a 140kW/450Nm 2.2-litre twin-turbo diesel engine – have been left unchanged. Pricing is yet to be confirmed, but we don’t expect big changes from the current model’s $39,990 plus on-road costs starting price.
