Citroen Australia has announced that the mid-life facelift for one of our favourite mid-size SUV offerings – the C5 Aircross – will finally arrive in the second quarter of 2023. Launching with new styling, a new engine, new technology and a likely higher pricetag that’s yet to be announced, the updated C5 Aircross will renew the company’s attack on the very popular mid-size SUV segment that includes cars like Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage and – its twin under the skin – the Peugeot 3008.

Kate Gillis, Managing Director Citroën Australia, said: “We are looking forward to introducing the refreshed C5 Aircross Sport later this year to a revitalised local range alongside the recent addition of the C5 X and the C4, offering greater choice for Australian consumers.

“Appealing to the discerning Citroën customer in Australia, C5 Aircross Sport offers a compelling package with Citroën’s signature Advanced Comfort philosophy influencing all aspects of the vehicle, a distinctive and modern exterior design and a comfortable and stylish interior, coupled with important safety and convenience features.”

The updated Citroen C5 Aircross was revealed last year with a new look, new available technology and – for Europe at least – a more modern engine range, including a plug-in hybrid (which is yet to be confirmed for Australian sales). The interior debuted a new 10-inch touchscreen with Citroen’s latest infotainment system – which since launched locally in the C5 X raised wagon – with online services.

Replacing the current C5 Aircross Style, the updated range will offer just the Sport when it’s launched locally. Citroen is yet to reveal the full equipment list for Australia, but has confirmed that features like Nappa leather upholstery with a massaging driver’s seat, heated front seats, the aforementioned 10-inch touchscreen, a panoramic sunroof and new safety features such as adaptive cruise control with lane trace assist (for level 2 autonomous highway driving) will be standard.

Also standard will be a black pack for the exterior, including black detailing for the 19-inch wheels, roof, mirror caps, roof rails, Airbumps and fog light surrounds.

The only available engine for the updated Citroen C5 Aircross Sport will be the 133kW/250Nm 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that’s available in the Peugeot 3008 and 5008 ranges. It replaces the older-generation 121kW/240Nm engine of the same capacity in the pre-facelifted C5 Aircross, and uses an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard. Like all other C5 Aircross models, the Sport is front-wheel drive only.

The facelifted Citroen C5 Aircross is due in Australia in the second quarter of 2023 with local pricing and full specifications to be announced before then. Stay tuned to DiscoverAuto for the latest automotive news and reviews.
