After a long teaser period, the 2024 Volvo EX30 has finally been revealed and is on sale now ahead of the first Australian deliveries in early 2024. Smaller than the current smallest Volvo – the XC40 Recharge – the EX30 takes clear inspiration from the larger EX90 that was revealed in 2022, while adding a lot of its own unique character with four available interior themes, a home audio-style sound bar in the dashboard and range of up to 380km on the WLTP cycle. Two drivetrains will be offered with up to 315kW of power, quick enough for a 3.6 second 0-100km/h sprint time, making it the quickest accelerating Volvo ever.

“We are proud to introduce the EX30 to Australia which embodies Volvo’s distinctive Scandinavian design values, advanced safety, legendary comfort and cutting-edge tech in a smaller format,” said Stephen Connor, Managing Director of Volvo Car Australia.

“With the EX30 we enter a new, growing segment – the small, fully electric luxury SUV. The EX30 offers a strong value proposition to a new audience in the Australian car market which is increasingly embracing EVs.”

Boasting a clear resemblance to the flagship EX90, the 2024 Volvo EX30 features no grille, as well as Volvo’s ‘Thor’s hammer’ headlights with LEDs that appear to move out when the low beam lights are switched on. At the rear are split tailights with a rectangular lower portion. Just five colours are available for the EX30: ‘Vapour Grey’, ‘Onyx Black’, ‘Crystal White’, ‘Cloud Blue’ and a new ‘Moss Yellow’. Wheels between 18- and 20-inches in size are available.

The interior of the EX30 also follows the larger EX90 with a minimalist look that focuses on sustainability and storage. There will be four textile interior designs – or ‘rooms’ as described by Volvo – with ‘breeze’ (light grey), ‘mist’ (a darker grey), ‘pine’ (light and dark green) and ‘indigo’ (dark grey and blue) themes available.

Standard on the 2024 Volvo EX30 is a new 12.3-inch vertical touchscreen with Android Automotive software, inbuilt Google apps, over-the-air updates and wireless Apple CarPlay. There’s also a home audio-style sound bar mounted in the dashboard instead of speakers in the door, which uses Harman Kardon speakers in all Australian-spec EX30 models. There’s also centrally-mounted glovebox and a highly configurable central arm rest zone for greater practicality.

Built on parent company Geely’s ‘SEA’ platform that’s also shared with the upcoming Polestar 4, the 2024 Volvo EX30 measures 4,233mm long, 1,836mm tall, 1,549mm wide and with a 2,650mm long wheelbase. It has a 318-litre boot with the seats up (including a 61L underfloor compartment), as well as a front boot with two sections to separate items.

Using a 69kWh 400V lithium-ion battery, the 2024 Volvo EX30 will offer three variants locally: the $59,990 plus on-road costs Single Motor Extended Plus, the $64,990 +ORC Single Motor Extended Ultra and the $69,990 +ORC Twin Motor Performance Ultra. Single Motor variants use a 200kW/343Nm motor on the rear axle and the Performance adds a front motor for 315kW of power and 543Nm of torque. A smaller 51kWh battery will be offered overseas, but isn’t due for Australia at this stage.

On the WLTP cycle, the single motor variants offer up to 480km of range, with the twin motor Performance only knocking off 20km of range (460km). According to Volvo, the EX30 can be DC fast charged from 10 to 80 per cent in under 30 minutes. The Single Motor Extended Range has WLTP-rated energy consumption of 15.7kWh/100km, with the Twin Motor Performance Ultra not far above at 16.3kWh/100km.

Standard safety equipment on all EX30 variants includes lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring with steer assist, front and rear cross-traffic alert (with braking), auto emergency braking with pedestrian, cyclist and intersection assist (with both braking and steering), automatic low-speed rear braking, road sign information, intelligent speed assist, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, lane change assist, door open alert, a reversing camera and parking sensors.

Other equipment includes a dual-tone roof, four USB-C ports, a digital key, wireless phone charging, Harman Kardon audio, an electric tailgate and auto-dimming mirrors. The Ultra variants add a panoramic glass roof, a 360-degree camera, automatic parking, electric seat adjustment with four-way lumbar adjustment, tinted rear windows, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel and on the Twin Motor Performance, 20-inch alloy wheels.

  • Single Motor Extended Plus: $59,990
  • Single Motor Extended Ultra: $64,990
  • Twin Motor Performance Ultra: $69,990
