The 2024 Hyundai Sonata has been revealed ahead of a late 2023 Australian debut. A pretty significant mid-life update, the updated Sonata introduces a sporty new look with new front and rear styling, as well as a new dashboard and new technology for a more modern look. Australian details are yet to be confirmed, though the local lineup is expected to retain just the current N Line variant.

According to the company, “Through more than a simple facelift, the new Sonata revolutionises the old Sonata’s image, launched in 2019, and is reborn as a dynamic, progressive new model with low-slung, elegant proportions, more aggressive styling and future-oriented technology.”

“The new Sonata presents a fresh take on the four-door coupe that captures the essence of Hyundai Motor’s ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design philosophy.”

Stylistically, the 2024 Hyundai Sonata is a big departure from the model it replaces. The front and rear ends are new, while the side has extra detailing and new wheel designs to keep it fresh. At the front, the current model’s headlight and integrated chrome strip has been shelved, with a new full-width LED light bar sitting above the actual headlights that sit alongside the new mouth. The tailights have also been redesigned and are now blockier and have a single light bar running across the bootlid.

Inside the 2024 Hyundai Sonata has also seen some changes with a new dashboard layout, new dual 12.3-inch infotainment and driver instrument cluster displays, a new steering wheel and even a new location for the gear selector: behind the steering wheel. The centre armrest has also been redesigned for greater comfort, according to the company.

Little else is known about the 2024 Hyundai Sonata, including its drivetrains and mechanical changes. In Australia, the current model is powered by a 213kW/422Nm 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and we expect that drivetrain to continue over. In overseas markets, both a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre and a 1.6-litre hybrid – which is also used in the Santa Fe Hybrid – are also offered, but it’s not known if they’ll make it to Australia.

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata is due in Australia before the end of 2023. Stay tuned to DiscoverAuto for the latest automotive news and reviews.
