Australian pricing and specifications for the 2023 Skoda Fabia have been announced ahead of the car’s local arrival in August 2022. Priced from $37,990 drive away – a full $9,500 more than the last Fabia Monte Carlo in 2020 – just a single Fabia variant will be available in Australia for now: the Monte Carlo Edition 150. But while pricing has increased, so have standard equipment levels and the car’s size – it’s now a bigger car than before, thanks to its new platform.
“Perhaps no new model better embodies Skoda’s journey in Australia than the new Fabia Monte Carlo,” Skoda Australia Director Michael Irmer said.
“The Monte Carlo Edition 150 is packed with every item of equipment and technical refinement available, at a drive away price and the best whole of life affordability of any European brand.”
Now based on the Volkswagen Group’s latest ‘MQB-A0’ platform that’s also shared with the Volkswagen Polo and Audi A1, the 2023 Skoda Fabia has grown significantly in size. At 4,108mm long, 1,780mm wide and 1,460mm tall with a 2,564mm long wheelbase, the new car is 111mm longer, 48mm wider, 7mm lower and with a 94mm longer wheelbase than the last-generation car. Its bootspace measures 380-litres with the seats up – the same size as the current Volkswagen Golf – and 1,190L with the seats folded. Its length makes it only 97mm shorter than the Mk5 Volkswagen Golf.
The single drivetrain available for the 2023 Skoda Fabia Edition 150 is the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that does duty in the Kamiq and Scala. It makes healthy numbers for the light car segment with 110kW of power (or 150 horsepower – hence the 150 in the name) and 250Nm of torque. It’s mated solely to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Fuel consumption is rated at 4.9L/100km and it must use minimum 95RON premium unleaded. The Fabia has a 40-litre fuel tank.
Standard equipment on the 2023 Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo Edition 150 includes 18-inch alloy wheels, LED lighting, auto lights and wipers, keyless entry and start, heated and auto-folding mirrors, a leather-wrapped flat-bottomed steering wheel, heated front sports seats with red and black upholstery, dual-zone climate control, LED ambient lighting, a 9.2-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, digital radio, satellite navigation, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, wireless phone charging, four USB-C ports, a six-speaker sound system and rear air vents.
Of course, the usual Skoda ‘simply clever’ features like an umbrella and a bin in the driver’s door, a ticket holder on the A-pillar, luggage nets and a storage hammock in the boot also feature.
Safety kit includes six airbags, auto emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, auto rear braking, driver fatigue monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, tyre pressure monitoring and an alarm. Semi-automatic parking is a $1,000 option.
Seven colours are available for the new Fabia Monte Carlo Edition 150: ‘Moon White’, ‘Race Blue’, ‘Brilliant Silver’, ‘Graphite Grey’, ‘Magic Black’ and for $500 extra, ‘Velvet Red’ or ‘Phoenix Orange’. A five-year service pack is available for $1,500 – a seven-year/105,000km version with seven years of warranty is $2,100.
