Mercedes-Benz Australia has announced local pricing and specifications for the 2023 Mercedes-AMG C43, which is the first AMG-fettled version of the new C-Class to hit Australia. It’s priced from $134,900 plus on-road costs, uses a new 2.0-litre turbocharged 48V mild-hybrid drivetrain and is due in local dealerships immediately. The C43 rivals cars like Audi S4, BMW M340i and Genesis G70 3.3T.

“The C-Class has always been an absolute success story for Mercedes-AMG. With the innovative technology of the electric exhaust gas turbocharger, we are once again significantly increasing the attractiveness of this latest generation,” says Philipp Schiemer, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes AMG GmbH.

“In this way, we are demonstrating the tremendous potential that lies in electrified combustion engines. The standard all-wheel drive, the active rear-axle steering and the quick-shifting transmission all serve to enhance the Driving Performance that is the hallmark of AMG.”

Under the bonnet of the 2023 Mercedes-AMG C43 is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that’s mated to a 48V mild hybrid system for total outputs of 300kW (at 6,750rpm) and 500Nm (at 5,000rpm). It uses a nine-speed automatic transmission, while its claimed 0-100km/h sprint time is 4.6 seconds and it hits an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h. The claimed combined fuel economy is 9.1L/100km.

The AMG C43 uses Formula One-derived electrically-assisted turbocharger, which fits an electric motor to spin it when there is not enough exhaust gas, therefore reducing lag and upping performance. The all-wheel drive system has a 31:69 split front to rear, while the rear-axle steering can turn 2.5 degrees to aid the car’s agility. Other performance features include adaptive suspension, a dual-mode exhaust, customisable driving modes and 370mm front and 320mm rear disc brakes.

Standard equipment on the 2023 Mercedes-AMG C43 includes 20-inch alloy wheels, adaptive suspension, rear-axle steering, automatic all-LED lighting, auto wipers, keyless entry and start, heated and auto-folding mirrors, rear privacy glass, leather upholstery, electrically adjustable front sports seats with both memory and heating, a panoramic sunroof, multiple driving modes, multi-colour LED interior ambient lighting, an AMG sports leather steering wheel with paddle shifters, an 11.9-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation, digital radio, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15-speaker Burmester sound system, a wireless phone charger, an electric bootlid and dual-zone climate control.

Safety kit includes 10 airbags, auto emergency braking (AEB) pedestrian, cyclist and intersection assistance, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist with lane follow assist, automatic adaptive high beam, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, traffic sign recognition with speed limit assist, driver attention monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera and automatic parking.
