After a series of delays, the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid has finally gone on sale in Australia priced from $63,000 plus on-road costs. Using the same 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine and 44.2kW electric motor hybrid system as the related Kia Sorento Hybrid, the Santa Fe Hybrid uses just 6.0L/100km on a combined cycle and is only available with all-wheel drive. Officially on sale now, the first deliveries of the Santa Fe Hybrid will arrive soon to battle the Sorento and Toyota Kluger Hybrid.
“The addition of Santa Fe Hybrid, and a new six-seater option, brings renewed appeal in this latest evolution of our ever-popular large SUV,” Hyundai Motor Company Australia Chief Executive Officer, Ted Lee said.
“A favourite of Australian families, Santa Fe continues to deliver an alluring combination of style, space, luxury and technology, now with the performance and efficiency benefits of a hybrid powertrain,” he said.
Available solely in either Elite or Highlander grades for now, the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid uses a turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine that’s combined with a 44.2kW electric motor for total outputs of 169kW of power (at 5,500rpm) and 350Nm of torque (between 1,000rpm and 4,500rpm). That drivetrain is mated to a a 1.49kWh lithium-ion polymer battery and a six-speed automatic transmission.
The 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid is rated at 6.0L/100km on a combined cycle, which is 0.1L/100km less than the 148kW/440Nm 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine and and a whole 4.0L/100km less than the 200kW/331Nm 3.5-litre petrol V6 engine. While its fuel consumption is less than those engines, so is its braked towing ability – it’s rated at 1,650kg versus the 2,500kg of the diesel and V6.
The 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid is available in two grades: the $63,000 plus on-road costs Elite and the $69,550+ORC Highlander. Standard equipment on the Santa Fe Elite includes 19-inch alloy wheels in an aero design, all-LED lighting, auto lights and wipers, leather upholstery, powered front seats with heating, keyless entry and start, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, digital radio, satellite navigation, a Harman Kardon sound system, roof rails and a powered tailgate.
Safety equipment includes seven airbags, auto emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian, cyclist and intersection assist, lane keep assist with lane trace assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, driver attention monitoring, safe exit assist, rear occupant alert, auto high beam, a reversing camera and front and rear parking sensors.
The upper-spec Highlander adds Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, heated outboard rear seats, a heated steering wheel, a blind-spot camera, a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, memory functionality for the driver’s seat, a panoramic sunroof, rear auto braking, a heads-up display, a 360-degree camera, body-coloured exterior cladding, projector headlights and remote smart park assist.
The Highlander Hybrid is also available in a six-seat configuration with captain’s chairs in the middle row.
