Chery Australia has announced the next step in its Australian expansion after relaunching with the Omoda 5 small SUV: the 2023 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro. Fitting in between small- and medium-sized SUVs, the Tiggo 7 Pro is slightly larger than something like a Toyota Corolla Cross, but still smaller than a RAV4 – similar to the new Honda ZR-V, we’re expecting. Under the bonnet of the Tiggo 7 Pro is a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with both front- and all-wheel drive drivetrains available, while three models will also be available as well. Pricing is yet to be confirmed.

Chery Australia, Managing Director, Andy Zhang, says the first model to arrive, the Tiggo 7 Pro, an established global SUV, is poised to make its mark within Australia’s thriving medium SUV segment.

“As the Tiggo 7 Pro arrives on Australian shores in the coming months, it brings with it an impressive international sales history and an award-winning reputation for blending style, safety and technology,” said Zhang.

Zhang continues, “This, coupled with Chery’s commitment to delivering unmatched value to Australian new-car buyers, is set to elevate the driving experience to new heights within this category.”

Sold in other markets since 2020 – but facelifted for Australia – the 2023 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro is sized above the current Chery Omoda 5 that’s on sale currently. Measuring 4,500mm long, 1,842mm wide, 1,746mm tall and riding on a 2m670mm long wheelbase, the Tiggo 7 Pro is 75mm shorter than a Mazda CX-5, but with a claimed boot size of between 475L and 1,500L, it offers more boot space.

Australian pricing and specifications are yet to be announced, however, the brand has announced that three models of Tiggo 7 Pro will be available: Urban, Elite and Ultimate AWD. All models will share a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that makes 147kW of power and 290Nm of torque in China – Australian specifications are yet to be announced. The Tiggo 7 Pro will use a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Chery Australia is yet to announce local equipment lists, however, based on the photos provided to us by Chery, we can see that features like leather (or leather-like) upholstery, LED exterior lighting, 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and start, a leather steering wheel, a huge touchscreen with satellite navigation and smartphone mirroring, a digital driver’s display, a 360-degree camera, a wireless phone charger and a panoramic roof will be available on at least the top-spec Ultimate.

As per the smaller Omoda 5, the standard active safety equipment lists will likely be long with features like auto emergency braking (AEB), lane keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, traffic jam assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert (with braking), active speed assist, traffic sign recognition, driver attention monitoring, auto high beam and a 360-degree camera likely to be available.

The 2023 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro will arrive in Australian showrooms soon, with local pricing to be confirmed. Stay tuned to DiscoverAuto for the latest automotive news and reviews.
