After being on the market for almost ten years, the Mitsubishi Outlander has had an upgrade. Due in Australian showrooms in November, the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander arrives with a new platform, a new look, a new interior and a lot more technology than the car it replaces. First revealed earlier this year, the new Outlander shares a lot of its parts with the new Nissan X-Trail, which is due locally next year. Priced from $34,490 plus on-road costs, the new Outlander is around $4,000 more than the car it replaces – but there’s much more technology on offer than before.

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander

The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander enters a very populous part of the new car market and competes with a wide range of competitors. These include the Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5, Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, Volkswagen Tiguan, Skoda Karoq, Subaru Forester and MG HS.

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Drivetrain

Standard on all 2022 Mitsubishi Outlanders for now is a new 135kW/245Nm 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that’s shared with the new X-Trail. It’s matched solely to a CVT automatic transmission with eight ‘steps’ and in base ES and mid-spec LS models, it’s available in two-wheel drive form – all other models come standard with all-wheel drive.

Mitsubishi claims combined fuel consumption of between 7.5L/100km for the base two-wheel drive and 8.1L/100km for the top-spec all-wheel drive. CO2 emissions range between 170g/km and 185g/km. For those seeking a more eco-friendly drivetrain, Mitsubishi has confirmed that the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) Outlander will be offered next year.

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Dimensions

The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander measures 4,710m long, 1,862mm wide, 1,740mm tall and sits on a 2,706mm long wheelbase. The claimed bootspace is 485-litres in five seat models – this decreases slightly to 478L in seven seat models. Folding the seats increases this to 1,471L in five seat models and 1,461L with seven seats. Five seat models have a full-size spare wheel – seven seaters have a space saver.
