Not long after its global debut, the 2023 Genesis Electrified G80 has gone on sale in Australia ahead of the first deliveries in September 2022. Combining the handsome body and luxurious interior of the regular G80 with same tailpipe emissions-free motoring of its Genesis GV60, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Hyundai Ioniq 6 and Kia EV6 siblings, the G80 is a fairly unique offering in the market: an electric luxury sedan.
“The introduction of the sophisticated Electrified G80, along with Electrified GV70 and our GV60, sees Genesis transition into the future with electrification as a core brand pillar,” Head of Genesis Motors Australia, Connal Yan said.
“Electrified G80 builds on the renowned luxury and appeal of G80 with its refined, zero-emission battery-electric performance, long-range and ultra-rapid charging to create a fitting range flagship,” he said.
Based on the top-spec Genesis G80 3.5T with the Luxury Package included, the 2023 Genesis Electrified G80 removes the G80’s petrol engine and instead, uses a pair of electric motors that draw power from an 87.2kWh battery, which gives the Electrified G80 a driving range of up to 520km under the WLTP cycle.
As for performance, the Electrified G80 pumps out 272kW of power and 700Nm of torque, which gives it enough go for a quick 4.9 second 0-100km/h sprint time – 0.2 seconds faster than the G80 3.5T. The 800-volt electrical system allows for fast charging of up to 350kW, enabling a possible 10 to 80 per cent charge in less than 25 minutes.
The 2023 Genesis Electrified G80 is largely identical to the G80 3.5T on which it’s based, but with Electrified-specific 19-inch alloy wheels, sleeker bumpers for greater aerodynamic efficiency and even a solar roof, which replaces the panoramic sunroof on the petrol 3.5T. The Electrified G80 also includes a heat pump for greater efficiency.
Standard equipment on the 2023 Genesis Electrified G80 otherwise includes automatic all-LED lighting, auto wipers, Bio-processed Nappa leather upholstery, a leather dashboard and door trims, adaptive suspension, 18-way electrically adjustable front seats with heating and ventilation, a heated steering wheel, tri-zone climate control, a 14.5-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation, digital radio, a 21-speaker Lexicon sound system, a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display with a 3D effect, powered rear seats with dual 9.2-inch screens, rear power sunshades, soft close doors, front and rear wireless phone charging, keyless entry and start, a powered bootlid and ambient lighting.
Safety kit includes auto emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian, cyclist and intersection assist, lane keep assist with lane trace assist, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert (both with braking), safe exit assist, traffic sign recognition, low-speed rear auto braking, Matrix adaptive high beam, a 12-inch heads-up display, a 360-degree parking camera, front and rear parking sensors and semi-automatic parking.
The only option for the Electrified G80 is $2,000 matte paint, while the exclusive-to-Electrified ‘Matira Blue’ is a no cost option, like the other metallic paint options on offer. Four interior colour options are available as well: black, brown, blue and the EV-only white.
