Citroen Australia has introduced the 2022 Citroen C4 to Australia priced from $37,990 plus on-road costs. Available in a single Shine model for now, the C4 is fully loaded locally and returns the C4 name to Australia after more than five years. Now a small SUV instead of a hatchback, the C4 goes up against established small SUV competitors, including the Mazda CX-30, Hyundai Kona, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kamiq and Ford Puma.

“New C4 Shine is the perfect addition to our model line-up with its stand-out style, strong equipment list and, of course, its Citroën Advanced Comfort features broadening its appeal,” said Citroen Australia General Manager, Kate Gillis.

“Its design is original and stunning, and coupled with its impressive versatility and unrivalled comfort, the C4 will really appeal to the discerning Australian small car buyer,” she added.

The 2022 Citroen C4 will feature only one drivetrain option: a 114kW/240Nm 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine that’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. It uses the same platform and drivetrain as the Peugeot 2008 GT Sport and in the C4, it’s rated at 6.1L/100km on a combined cycle.

Measuring 4,355mm long, 1,525mm tall, 1,800mm wide and with a 2,670mm long wheelbase, the C4 is 40mm shorter overall than the Mazda CX-30 but its wheelbase is 15mm longer. Its boot measures 380-litres with the seats up and 1,250L with them folded. Using a coupe-like roofline instead of a traditional small SUV – and the hatchback body style of the previous C4s – the C4 is one of the most unique offerings in the small SUV segment.

Its interior uses much of the latest Peugeot Citroen switchgear, though with physical controls for the dual-zone climate control system for greater ergonomics. Like the larger C5 Aircross, the C4 uses the company’s ‘Advanced Comfort Seats’, which include high-density material and 15mm-thick foam. Black leather upholstery is standard.

The 2022 Citroen C4 will be offered in a single Shine grade in Australia. Standard equipment is lengthy with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED lighting, auto lights and wipers, leather upholstery with heated front seats, a four-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat with massaging, keyless entry and start, heated and auto-folding mirrors, dual-zone climate control with rear air vents, a 10.0-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation, digital radio, a 5.5-inch digital driver’s display and rear privacy glass.

Just two options are available: a $1,490 panoramic roof and $690 premium paint, which includes ‘Iceland Blue’, ‘Pulse Orange’, ‘Elixir Red’, ‘Steel Grey’, ‘Platinum Grey’ and ‘Obsidian Black’. ‘Polar White’ is the only no-cost colour option.
