The 2024 Polestar 2 has been revealed ahead of the first deliveries landing in Australia in the third quarter of 2023. The mid-life update for the 2 has focused on adding important upgrades under the skin – the battery is larger, the motors are more powerful and on the entry-level model, it’s now rear-wheel drive. Australian pricing and specifications are yet to be announced.

“Typically in the car industry, a facelift introduces superficial visual changes that often destroy the original intention of the car’s design theme. With the new model year Polestar 2, we rather went below the surface and upgraded substantial tech and mechanical components of the electric drivetrain. This is the best Polestar 2 yet, and with the updated front design with the new SmartZone, the best looking one, too,” says Polestar CEO, Thomas Ingenlath.

Stylistically, the 2024 Polestar 2 hasn’t changed much – there’s a new wheel design for the Performance Package, as well as a new body-coloured grille called the ‘SmartZone’ that incorporates radars. But the bigger changes are underneath the body: all models have more power and torque and efficiency improvements to enhance the car’s driving range – up to 635km (WLTP) is available on the Long Range Single Motor (up from 551km).

The entry level 2024 Polestar 2 Standard Range Single Motor is now rear-wheel drive, with the Single Motor’s battery remaining the same 69kWh, though its performance figures have been boosted to 200kW/490Nm (up from 170kW/330Nm) for a 1.0 second reduction in the 0-100km/h time to 6.4 seconds. The Standard Range Single Motor’s range has also increased to 518km (up by 40km).

The mid-spec Single Motor Long Range uses a larger 82kWh battery for up to 635km of range, while it too uses a new rear-wheel drive layout and its performance has been boosted to 220kW/490Nm (up from 170kW/330Nm). Its 0-100km/h sprint is a claimed 6.2 seconds.

The Dual Motor Long Range’s performance has been boosted to 310kW/740Nm (up from 300kW/660Nm), while its range is a claimed 592km (an increase of 105km) and its 0-100km/h sprint time is a claimed 4.5 seconds. According to the company, the all-wheel drive system is more rear-biased for the update – the rear motor is more powerful for the update, unlike the pre-facelifted car that had identical outputs front and rear – and the front motor can now decouple for greater efficiency.

Finally, choosing the Performance Package for the Dual Motor Long Range increases the performance figures to 350kW/740Nm with a 4.2 second 0-100km/h sprint – along with larger 20-inch wheels, performance suspension and gold detailing. The Performance Package is rated like the Dual Motor Long Range for a 592km driving range.

Polestar has also increased the charging speed for all variants – the Standard Range Single Motor can now charge at up to 135kW (up from 130kW), while all other variants can charge up to 205kW (up from 155kW). The company is yet to announce how that will enhance charge times.

Polestar has also announced that all variants of the 2024 Polestar 2 will now be equipped with blind-spot monitoring (with steering support), rear cross-traffic alert (with braking), rear automatic braking, auto-dimming mirrors, a 360-degree parking camera and a wireless phone charger as standard equipment.

The first deliveries of the 2024 Polestar 2 will land locally in the fourth quarter of 2023, with local pricing and specifications to be announced before then. Stay tuned to DiscoverAuto for the latest automotive news and reviews.
