Mazda Australia has announced local pricing and specifications for the 2024 Mazda CX-5, which is due to enter Australian showrooms in January 2024. The former diesel powertrain option has been cut from the range after accounting for just four per cent of sales, while the former Touring Active variant has also been cut from the range. On the plus side, more equipment has been added to most models, while pricing now kicks off from $35,650 plus on-road costs ($450 more).

Mazda has culled the former 140kW 2.2-litre twin-turbo diesel option from the CX-5 range, leaving three petrol engines: a 115kW 2.0-litre found only in the Maxx, a 140kW 2.5-litre in the Maxx Sport and upwards and a 170kW turbocharged 2.5-litre in the GT SP and Akera. The Maxx is front-wheel drive only, while the Maxx Sport can be had as either front- or all-wheel drive and all other models are all-wheel drive. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard across the range. The former Touring Active has also been culled from the range.

But while the company has simplified the 2024 Mazda CX-5 range, it has given most of the available models more standard equipment. The base model Maxx now features wireless (and wired) Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring and the whole range now features touchscreen functionality for smartphone mirroring too.

The mid-spec Touring gains new 19-inch alloy wheels, as well as full ‘Maztex’ synthetic leather trim – the current model features a mix of it and suede trim. For the GT SP and Akera, there’s a new grille design, as well as a new hands-free function for the tailgate. Finally, the Akera has new interior inlays while ‘Platinum Quartz’ replaces the former ‘Sonic Silver’ colour.
