Not long after releasing the new Q5 plug-in hybrid, Audi Australia has confirmed that a new plug-in hybrid variant of the Q8 range will be launched in late 2023. Adding an electric motor and a 17.9kWh lithium-ion battery to the Q8’s 3.0-litre turbo petrol V6 engine, the 2024 Audi Q8 60 TFSI e makes 340kW of power and 700Nm of torque, while it can also travel a claimed all-electric 47km on the WLTP cycle. It’s priced from $148,375 plus on-road costs, or around $15,000 more than the current Q8 55 TFSI on which it’s based.

”I am very happy to confirm that the Q8 plug-in hybrid is headed our way so soon after launching the Q5 plug-in hybrid here in Australia.” says Jeff Mannering, Director of Audi Australia.

“We are pleased to be able to offer our customers a new alternative drive for what is already a popular premium performance SUV.”

Under the bonnet of the 2024 Audi Q8 60 TFSI e is a 3.0-litre turbocharged petrol V6 engine that’s mated to an electric motor for total outputs of 340kW of power and 700Nm of torque. That electric motor draws its power from a 17.9kWh lithium-ion battery for up to a claimed 47km of all-electric range (WLTP).

The battery can be charged at up to 7.4kW and a full charge takes 2.5 hours at that charging speed – full fuel economy figures are yet to be announced. Like its regular siblings, the Q8 60 TFSI e uses an eight-speed automatic transmission and is mated to Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system.

Priced from $148,375 plus on-road costs – or around $15,000 more than the current Q8 55 TFSI, standard equipment includes 21-inch alloy wheels, red brake callipers, HD matrix adaptive LED lighting with front and rear dynamic indicators, a black exterior styling package, the S line exterior package, electric tailgate, electric front sports seats, ‘Valcona’ leather upholstery, tri-zone climate control, privacy glass, adjustable LED ambient cabin lighting and a panoramic sunroof.

Safety equipment on the 2024 Audi Q8 60 TFSI e includes eight airbags, front and rear auto emergency braking (AEB) and pedestrian detection, attention assist, active lane assist, lane changing warning with exit warning and rear cross traffic assist adaptive cruise control with stop and go including traffic jam assist and collision avoidance assist, a 360-degree camera and automatic parking.
