Australian pricing and specifications for the upcoming 2023 MG 4 electric hatchback have been announced ahead of its arrival into local showrooms in the second half of 2023. Priced from $47,990 plus on-road costs for the single high-spec Essence model, the MG 4 will launch in Australia initially with a single high-spec model with a large 64kWh battery pack and up to 435km of range (WLTP).
To be offered in a single high-spec Essence model for now – less expensive models are likely to join the range after launch – the 2023 MG 4 is priced from $47,990 plus on-road costs. This price matches the upper-spec MG ZS EV Essence, but is above the GWM Ora Standard Range (from $44,490 +ORC and lower-spec ZS EV Excite (from $43,990 +ORC).
Standard equipment on the 2023 MG 4 includes 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic all-LED lighting, a large 10.25-inch touchscreen with the company’s ‘iSmart’ software, a wireless phone charger, two-tone exterior paintwork, climate control air-conditioning and the full suite of the company’s ‘MG Pilot’ active safety kit, which includes auto emergency braking (AEB), lane keeping assistance, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, a 360-degree camera, auto high beam and driver attention monitoring.
Powering the 2023 MG 4 is a 150kW electric motor driving the rear wheels. It draws power from a 64kWh battery pack for up to 435km of driving on the WLTP cycle. It can be charged at up to 135kW, with a 50kW charger giving a 0 to 80 per cent charge in around an hour. Overseas, a smaller 51kWh battery is available for around 350km of range (WLTP), and we predict MG Motor Australia selling that variant sometime after the 4’s launch in Australia – doing so could reduce the price below $40,000 +ORC.
