Ahead of its first half of 2023 Australian release, local drivetrains and model names for the 2023 Mazda CX-60 have been announced. Using a range of mild-hybrid and a plug-in hybrid drivetrains, the CX-60 sits on a new platform that uses a rear-biased all-wheel drive system. Sitting above the current CX-5, the CX-60 is Mazda’s competition for cars like the Volvo XC60.

Mazda Australia Managing Director, Vinesh Bhindi said: “The CX-60 represents a whole new chapter for Mazda and introduces a series of firsts for the brand: an all-new platform; full plug-in hybrid technology; rear-biased all-wheel drive and state-of-the-art longitudinal powerplants.

“All of this is wrapped in our beautifully restrained Kodo Design evolution, and as we draw closer to the local introduction of this authentically premium vehicle, the 14,500+ expressions of interest we have already received are a clear indication of the level of anticipation that already surrounds Mazda CX-60.”

For Australia, there will be three drivetrains available in the 2023 Mazda CX-60: a 187kW/550Nm 3.3-litre six-cylinder diesel engine, a 209kW/450Nm 3.3-litre six-cylinder petrol engine and a 241kW/500Nm 2.5-litre four-cylinder plug-in hybrid that’s mated to a 17.8kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

Both six-cylinder drivetrains are mated to Mazda’s new ‘M Hybrid Boost’ 48V mild-hybrid system for greater efficiency, while all drivetrains use a new eight-speed automatic transmission with a multi-plate clutch with an integrated electric motor/generator.

Three spec levels will be offered in Australia: the base model Evolve, mid-spec GT and the top-spec Azami. Standard equipment on the Evolve includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, 18-inch alloy wheels, a powered tailgate, exterior powered mirrors with auto-folding, heating and auto-dimming functionality and advanced keyless entry.

Available overseas are features like 20-inch wheels, a Bose sound system, a 360-degree parking camera, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof, Matrix LED headlights, Nappa leather upholstery, real wood dashboard trim and a cloth dashboard facia. We expect them all to feature on the top-spec Azami locally.

Local pricing and specifications for the 2023 Mazda CX-60 will be announced before the end of 2022. Stay tuned to DiscoverAuto for the latest automotive news and reviews.
