After more than a year of delays, the 2021 Hyundai Sonata has gone on sale in Australia. Available in a single high-spec N Line model for now, the new Sonata is priced from $50,990 plus on-road costs – $5,500 more than the last turbocharged Sonata, but now with much more standard kit, a sporty new attitude and a much higher quality feel inside.

“Sonata is a pillar of the Hyundai range, and the model’s evolution over eight generations into the stylish, all-new 2021 model represents our commitment to creating the ideal medium sedan,” Hyundai Motor Company Australia Chief Executive Officer, Jun Heo said.

“Striking coupe-like styling, a premium cabin, advanced safety and technology, and a powerful all-new 2.5L turbo engine ensure the all-new Sonata N Line is our best Sonata yet,” he said.

The Sonata is built on the company’s ‘N3’ platform, which also underpins the facelifted Santa Fe, as well as the Kia Sorento and Kia Carnival.

Being the sporty variant, the 2021 Hyundai Sonata N Line offers different driving modes for drivers to further tailor their car to their tastes. Normal, Sport, Sport+ and Custom are available – the sportiest settings offer a feature called ‘N Power Shift’ which keeps the throttle open during upshifts under hard acceleration. The Sonata N Line also features launch control.

While the 2021 Hyundai Sonata starts from over $50,000 plus on-road costs, it is very well equipped.
