The first all-new electric product from Lexus will reach Australian showrooms in May 2023. Priced from $123,000 plus on-road costs, the 2023 Lexus RZ 450e will be available in two models and use a 71.4kWh battery pack for up to 470km of range. Using the same platform as the incoming Toyota bZ4x and Subaru Solterra, the Lexus RZ 450e uses a more powerful 230kW dual-motor drivetrain.

Lexus Australia Chief Executive, John Pappas, said the RZ 450e was designed from the outset to be a Lexus first and foremost; using the benefit of zero-tailpipe emission BEV technology to reinvent the Lexus Driving Signature.

“The RZ 450e is a milestone vehicle for Lexus,” he said. “It is not a vehicle that simply adopts battery electric power in place of a conventional engine. It goes much further to realise the exciting potential of new technologies that enhance performance and driving pleasure.

Both variants of the 2023 Lexus RZ 450e range use a 71.4kWh battery that feeds a 230kW dual-motor all-wheel drive drivetrain. Lexus claims a range of up to 470km on more lenient NEDC testing, while it can be charged from 0 to 80 per cent in as little as 30 minutes using a DC fast charger.

Two models will be available initially in Australia: the $123,000 plus on-road costs Luxury and the $135,000 +ORC Sports Luxury. Standard equipment on the Luxury includes 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic all-LED lighting with auto wipers, a rear spoiler, rear privacy glass, keyless entry and start with an electric tailgate, heated and auto-folding mirrors, ‘NuLuxe’ upholstery with heated and eight-way electrically adjustable front seats, a 14.0-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, digital radio, a 10-speaker Panasonic sound system and a wireless phone charger.

A 7kW Jet Charge wallbox (including installation) is also included in the purchase price.

Safety equipment includes auto emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian, cyclist and intersection assist, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear cross-traffic alert, lane keeping assist, lane trace assist, traffic sign recognition and safe exit assist.

The upper-spec Sports Luxury then adds larger 20-inch wheels, adaptive headlights, memory functionality for the driver’s seat, a dimming panoramic sunroof, an 1,800-watt 13-speaker Mark Levinson sound system, a heads-up display, touch sensitive steering wheel controls, a heated steering wheel, ultrasuede upholstery, ventilated front seats, heated outboard rear seats and automatic parking.
