Following a series of spy shots, Kia has lifted the covers off its lightly updated performance fastback three years into its life cycle. The 2021 Kia Stinger features subtle modifications to exterior styling, new materials and trims for the interior, and a bigger infotainment screen.

At the front, it will take a train spotter to notice the updated LED headlights, now with a multifaceted reflector design and darker inserts. The rear end gets a bit more love, with a new LED bar connecting the rear lights featuring reworked graphics. The new design is said to give the Stinger a distinctive lighting signature at night and the LED indicators are now arranged as a chequered flag.

Continuing with the motorsport theme, the rear bumper now features a performance-inspired rear diffuser flanked by optional larger exhaust tips. There are also new 18” and 19” alloy wheel designs.

Globally, there are two new exterior operation packages. The ‘Dark Package’ is said to be available on high-performance models (most likely the GT in Australia), adding a black rear diffuser, black exhaust tips and a blacked out ‘Stinger’ badge. The ‘Black Package’ – currently only confirmed for North America – adds 19” matte black light-alloy wheels, a rear wing, blacked-out mirror caps and side skirts.

The interior changes to the 2021 Kia Stinger are limited to a new infotainment screen, a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror and updated materials.

If you thought the Stinger’s 8.0-inch touchscreen looked too small in an otherwise premium interior, the new 10.25-inch touchscreen will look more at home in its place. It’s the same unit that from the Kia Seltos and the upcoming Sorento.

Global markets get the choice of black, red or beige Nappa leather as well as Saturn Black, which adds splashes of black suede and red stitching in a watch strap design. Other interior trim options include contrast stitching on the dash and doors, aluminium or carbon fibre-style trim for the centre console and ambient lighting now offers 64 colours to choose from.

Australia

The 2021 Kia Stinger is due to go on sale in its home market in the third quarter of 2020, with Australia to follow before the end of the year. More details on specs, trim options and drivetrains will be revealed in the coming months.
