Audi Australia has introduced mid-life updates for their A4 sedan and wagon, and A5 coupe, liftback and convertible with new styling, slimlined ranges and new technology aimed at freshening up each model. The 2021 Audi A4 and A5 are on sale now.
2021 Audi A4
Audi has updated the A4 with new styling, a new touchscreen infotainment system and a new 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Badged ‘35 TFSI’, the new 2.0-litre unit replaces the former 1.4-litre unit and while it produces the same peak 110kW of power, it’s torquier at 270Nm (+20Nm). The 35 TFSI employs the same seven-speed dual-clutch auto as the rest of the A4 range.
Standard equipment on the 2021 Audi A4 $55,900 35 TFSI includes LED lighting, 19-inch alloy wheels, a new 10.1-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, digital radio and inbuilt satellite navigation, wireless phone charging, keyless entry and start, leather upholstery, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat and tri-zone climate control.
Safety kit includes eight airbags, auto emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, and an exit warning system.
Above the 2021 Audi A4 35 TFSI sits the $59,900 35 S Line, which adds Audi’s virtual cockpit digital dials, sports front seats, paddle shifters, heated/auto-folding mirrors and sportier S Line treatments including door sills, seats, a body kit and different wheels.
Above the 35 TFSI S Line sits the $68,900 45 TFSI S Line Quattro, which uses a more powerful 183kW/370Nm 2.0-litre turbo engine, Quattro all-wheel drive, a 10-speaker sound system, memory functionality for the driver’s seat and mirrors, and a flat-bottomed steering wheel. Unlike the 35 TFSI, the 45 TFSI S Line Quattro is also available as a $71,400 wagon.
The A4 wagon is also available as an allroad lifted wagon in $69,900 140kW/400Nm 2.0-litre diesel 40 TDI Quattro and $72,900 183kW/370Nm 2.0-litre turbo petrol 45 TFSI Quattro forms.
A $2,900 Assistance Package is available on the 40 and 45 models, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, a heads-up display, auto high beam, a 360-degree parking camera and auto parking – a lesser $1,900 pack with the same name is available on the 35 TFSI which includes the above but misses the 360-degree camera, heads-up display and auto parking.
The sportier S4 and high performance RS4 variants are due before the end of 2020.
2021 Audi A5
Updates to the 2021 Audi A5 range are similar to the A4, with a new look, new central touchscreen and new standard equipment. Like the A4, pricing has been sharpened and more standard equipment has been added. Pricing kicks off from $71,900 for the 140kW/320Nm 2.0-litre 40 TFSI S Line.
Standard equipment on the 40 TFSI includes Matrix LED lighting, 19-inch alloy wheels, a 10.1-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, digital radio, leather upholstery with front seat electric adjustment, tri-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, a 10-speaker sound system, a digital driver’s display and a 360-degree parking camera.
Safety kit includes AEB, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, driver attention alert, exit assist and eight airbags (six on the coupe and four on the cabriolet).
The 183kW/370Nm 45 TFSI S Line Quattro (from $79,900) adds all-wheel drive.
Cabriolet models add heated front seats with neck warmers and seatbelt-mounted microphones to aide conversation while the roof is down. The roof opens in 15 seconds and closes in 18.
Available packages include Premium Pack and an S Line Sport pack. The sportier S5 and high performance RS5 variants arrive later in the year.
