The 2025 Suzuki Fronx Hybrid goes on sale in September, starting at $28,990 plus on‑road costs, with a single, fully equipped grade available in our market. The Fronx, a combination of the words ‘frontier’ and ‘crossover’ brings an extensive feature list and some clever tech, all in a cute baby-SUV sized package.

The Fronx isn’t the cheapest in its segment, but it stands out as one of the few light SUVs to offer a mild‑hybrid system, even if doesn’t offer a full hybrid like the Toyota Yaris Cross.

Key competitors for the Fronx will be the best‑selling Mazda CX‑3 (from $27,070), Hyundai Venue (from $22,750) and Kia Stonic (from $25,660), alongside emerging challengers such as the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro (from $23,990 drive‑away) and Mahindra XUV 3XO (from $23,990 drive‑away).

Suzuki Australia managing director Michael Pachota says the small-SUV is poised to join Suzuki’s bestselling ranks here, thanks to the Japanese brand’s “low running costs … proven reliability and strong resale value.”

Only one version, the Fronx Hybrid—lands here, packed with a 9.0‑inch central touchscreen, single‑zone climate control, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless phone charger, configurable head‑up display (a Suzuki first), synthetic‑leather seats, keyless entry with push‑button start, and an electronic park brake with auto‑hold.

Under the bonnet sits a mild‑hybrid 1.5‑litre four‑cylinder petrol engine (75 kW/136 Nm) driving the front wheels through a conventional six‑speed automatic.

A 12‑volt integrated starter generator (ISG) temporarily boosts power and torque under hard acceleration and lets the engine shut off when coasting (though it can’t drive the car solo). Suzuki claims a combined‑cycle fuel consumption of just 4.9 L/100 km.

While it brings strong value and efficiency, the Fronx misses out on a five‑star ANCAP safety rating because it doesn’t include a front‑centre airbag, unlike the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro. It still packs plenty of advanced safety kit as standard, however, such as adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane‑keep assist, traffic‑sign recognition, automatic headlights, rear cross‑traffic alert and a 360‑degree camera.

Measuring just 3,990 mm in length, the baby SUV is more compact than many rivals yet doesn’t compromise on practicality, offering 308 L of boot space with the rear seats upright.
