With a range of new engine options and bold new styling, the 2 Series Coupe appears to be ready for business. Priced from $59,900 plus on-road costs, the new 2er will be available in two specs: the entry-level 220i and top-spec M240i xDrive – a mid-spec 230i will be added later.

Retaining the perfect 50:50 weight distribution means that the 2022 BMW 2 Series coupe will handle just as well as the previous model did, according to the company. BMW say that the new 2 Series Coupe has optimised ride comfort and acoustics, meaning superior drivability of the car compared with the current model. 17, 18, and 19-inch alloy wheels are available on the new 2 Series, all with run flat tyres.

The 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe is 105mm longer and 64mm wider than the model it replaces for a total length of 4,537mm and width of 1,838mm. The Coupe now sits 28mm lower than the previous car at just 1,390mm.

The different engine options available throughout the range are a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine in the 220i and the 230i with either 135kW of power and 300Nm of torque (220i) or 190kW of power and 400Nm of torque (230i). The top spec M240i xDrive comes with a 285kW and 500Nm 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine, with standard all wheel drive (the 220i and 230i are still RWD). The claimed 0-100km/h time for the M240i is just 4.3 seconds and all models use an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The standard LED headlights hark back to the classic BMW 2002 with their unique singular design. The top of the range M240i will include BMW’s selective beam Matrix lights, which will also be optional on the 220i. The new tail light design shows a curvy new rear daytime running light design and will continue BMW’s recent range-wide addition of front and rear daytime running lights.

In the driver-focused interior of the 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe, there are standard fit sports seats, a sporty leather wrapped steering wheel, 12.3-inch digital drivers display and a power adjustable driver’s seat. An 8.8-inch colour touchscreen will be standard fit for the new 2 Series, which will feature the companies new iDrive 7 interface with inbuilt satellite navigation and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
