Welcome to what is Australia’s cheapest EV, and Australia’s cheapest EV SUV – the BYD Atto 1 and Atto 2. with BYD Australia just confirming pricing and specifications for its new electric vehicles, ahead of their arrival in showrooms this December. The sharply priced models mark one of the first times EVs have reached true price parity with petrol-powered cars in Australia – and in some cases, undercut them.

The move is a clear power play on the market, as BYD moves to solidify itself as not just a new entrant to the market, but a manufacturer gunning for a podium position.

BYD Atto 1 and Atto 2

BYD ATTO 1 – Australia’s cheapest EV

The ATTO 1 is available in Essential (30kWh) and Premium (43.2kWh) variants. Designed for urban use, it offers:

  • Fast DC charging from 10–80% in around 30 minutes
  • Compact dimensions suited to city driving

The ATTO 1 is positioned as an affordable entry point for first-time EV buyers.

BYD ATTO 2 – Australia’s cheapest fully electric SUV

The ATTO 2 is a larger SUV-style model, available in Dynamic and Premium trims. Key highlights include:

  • 51.3kWh battery across both variants
  • DC charging from 10–80% in approximately 39 minutes
  • A balance of space, comfort, and efficiency for families and commuters

Technology and platform

Both ATTO 1 and ATTO 2 feature BYD’s Blade Battery, with suspension tuning and ADAS calibrated for Australian conditions. Both models are built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0, delivering performance, safety, and efficiency consistent with the brand’s growing EV portfolio.

Availability

The ATTO 1 and ATTO 2 will join BYD’s expanding Australian lineup, which already includes the ATTO 3, SEAL, DOLPHIN, SHARK 6, SEALION 6 and SEALION 7. The BYD Atto 1 and Atto 2 are expected to arrive in dealerships from December 2025 so stay tuned to DiscoverAuto for our first steer coming soon.
