Nissan has unveiled the all-new 2026 Navara, ahead of its Australian launch in early 2026. The new Navara arrives as the first fully redesigned model in more than a decade and is expected to be a major contender in the dual-cab ute market in Australia.

And yes, your eyes don’t deceive you. While the new model shares its core architecture with the latest Mitsubishi Triton, Nissan says the Navara has been tuned specifically for local conditions, aiming to deliver one of the most comfortable and capable utes in the segment.

Making its global debut in Australia, the D27 Navara has undergone an unusually extensive local development program. Nissan’s engineering partner Premcar led the chassis work, with more than 18,500km of testing, a large number of damper codes assessed, and hundreds of internal damper components trialled. According to Nissan, this deep level of local validation has resulted in a ute with more natural steering feel, better control over large bumps and dips, and a more composed ride over rough surfaces.

Although the Triton origins are clear in the proportions, the 2026 Navara wears a fully Nissan-designed front end. The bold V-motion grille, intricate V-strut detailing and redesigned headlights give it a much stronger visual link to the rest of the Nissan ute and SUV family. A three-slot element above the grille nods to the classic D21 Navara from the 1980s, while the squared-off bumper and “shield” front fascia are inspired by bull bars to enhance the tough, upright appearance.

The Pro-4X grade leans into a sporty off-road look with Lava Red highlights and black exterior trim, while the ST-X takes a more premium and understated approach. Both will form the launch lineup of the new Navara dual-cab range in Australia.

Power comes from Mitsubishi’s 2.4-litre bi-turbo four-cylinder diesel engine, delivering 150kW and 470Nm. It’s paired exclusively with a six-speed automatic transmission that Nissan refers to as a wide-ratio unit. The engine meets Euro 6b standards and uses AdBlue, but Nissan says drivability is improved thanks to software calibration changes.

A revised version of Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD system appears in the Navara as Super 4WD, marking the first time a Navara has offered a full-time 4WD high-range mode with an open centre differential. ST-X and Pro-4X variants also include seven terrain modes: Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand and Rock, giving the 2026 Navara more adaptability on and off-road than the outgoing model.

Inside, the 2026 Nissan Navara interior represents a major leap over the outgoing D23 generation. Every model features a 9.0-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, DAB+ digital radio and embedded satellite navigation. A 7.0-inch supervision display sits between the analogue dials, and Australian-delivered models gain connected services such as remote lock and unlock, remote air-conditioning activation, emergency calling and stolen vehicle tracking.

Safety has also taken a strong step forward. The 2026 Navara includes eight airbags, adaptive cruise control, emergency lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, driver attention monitoring, front and rear cross-traffic alert and an intelligent speed limiter. Crucially for this segment, all grades receive LED headlights and tail-lights as standard equipment. Nissan expects the new ute to perform strongly in safety testing.

Nissan has confirmed an initial Australian lineup consisting of two dual-cab pickup grades—ST-X and Pro-4X—both fitted with the six-speed automatic. Pricing and full specifications will be announced closer to the 2026 Nissan Navara release date, which is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026. Stay tuned to DiscoverAuto for our first steer!
