The upcoming 2023 MG4 has had its Australian debut at the Fully Charged Live electric vehicle show in Sydney on March 10th, 2023. Sitting alongside the extended range ZS EV small electric SUV, the MG4 is a new product for the company – it’s an all-new design with a new platform, a new clean sheet interior and two battery sizes for up to 450km of range on the WLTP cycle.

Peter Ciao, CEO at MG Motor Australia & New Zealand said the EV models on display at FullyCharged Live set a new standard for electric vehicles in Australia and NZ and demonstrates MG’s commitment to making EVs accessible for everyone.

“MG Motor is very excited to be a part of the inaugural Fully Charged Live event, here in Australia. So much that we have decided to use this event as a platform to announce two major milestones in the Australian and NZ EV landscape.

In Australia, the 2023 MG4 will reportedly be available with two battery sizes: an entry-level 51kWh unit for up to 350km of range on the WLTP cycle, and a larger 64kWh unit for up to 450km of range. In China, a dual-motor hot hatch MG4 also exists with 294kW of power, while a long-range 77kWh battery version is also rumoured for more than 500km of range.

The peak charging speed for the 51kWh battery MG4 is reportedly 117kW, while the larger 64kWh unit can charge at a slightly higher 135kW peak speed, allowing for a 0 to 80 per cent charge in as little as 35 minutes.

At FullyCharged Live, the company had two variants on display: a grey car that appeared to be an entry-level model – it had cloth upholstery, no rear spoiler and less features like manual-folding mirrors – while the red car on the MG stand had synthetic leather upholstery, a big rear spoiler and a glass roof.

In the UK, the 2023 MG4 is available in three models and even the entry-level car is equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a 7.0-inch digital driver’s display, climate control and the MG Pilot suite of active safety tech, including auto emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, auto high beam, driver attention monitoring, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and door open alert.

Equipment on the top-spec car then includes synthetic leather, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, inbuilt satellite navigation, a glass roof, a 360-degree camera and a wireless phone charger.

Pricing in the UK kicks off from £27,540 (AU$50,200) for the entry-level car and extends to £33,040 (AU$60,200) for the larger battery pack in ‘Trophy Long Range’ spec. Australian pricing is yet to be announced, but in the UK it’s priced £5,000 less than the entry-level ZS EV – which is priced from $43,990 plus on-road costs locally, which could give a clue to the MG4’s local pricing.

The 2023 MG4 will go on sale in Australia in the second half of 2023 with local pricing and specifications to be announced before then. Stay tuned to DiscoverAuto for the latest automotive news and reviews.
